Overview

The workflow brings video preparation, menu creation, and disc burning together. WinX DVD Author accepts formats including MP4, MKV, AVI, VOB, FLV, MOV, WMV, MPEG, and ISO, and supports DVD±R/±RW plus dual-layer media. That breadth helps when you need to work with varied files or discs, while manual chapter tools and subtitle support add control over the finished DVD.

Digiarty Software says the product debuted in 2006 and that it has developed multimedia software since then. The maker also says the installer includes no bundled extras and the interface has no ads. User guides, tutorials, FAQs, and a technical-support contact route provide help when needed.

Key features

Menus, chapters, and subtitles

You can create title and chapter menus, select a background template or local image, and add text and music. This is useful for giving a home-video disc a clear structure and personal look. It is a focused set of authoring controls rather than a reason to choose WinX for a more elaborate production workflow.

Video adjustments and output

Before burning, users can trim video, set the aspect ratio, and adjust resolution and other parameters. PAL and NTSC output and 16:9 or 4:3 formats cover common viewing needs. The maker says the software uses deinterlacing and high-quality decoder and encoder engines, and supports Dolby Digital AC-3 audio.

Online video and disc media

A built-in downloader can retrieve videos from YouTube and other online sources for DVD burning. The software supports DVD±R/±RW, DVD DL+R, and DVD DL±RW. Together, these features make it suited to users assembling a DVD from varied sources, provided they use Windows and compatible discs.

Pricing

WinX DVD Author is free. The plan is described as having no limits or watermarks and supports Windows 10/11, making it a straightforward choice for users who want DVD authoring without a paid plan. There are no paid tiers to weigh against it.

Platforms

WinX DVD Author is for Windows, with the free plan specified for Windows 10/11. There is no Mac or Linux version, so users on those systems should consider another authoring tool.

Who it's for

Choose WinX DVD Author if you use Windows and want to make a DVD from video files or online video, with custom menus, subtitles, and basic picture adjustments. Its format and media support suit personal projects with varied source files. It is not the right choice for Mac or Linux users, or for anyone whose needs go beyond the described menu and video controls.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free with no limits or watermarks, so there is no paid tier to unlock the stated DVD-authoring features.
Pros: Broad video-format and DVD-media support, including dual-layer discs, gives users flexibility over source files and blank media.
Pros: Menus, subtitles, manual chapters, and basic trimming help produce a more organized disc than a simple video transfer.
Cons: Windows-only support excludes Mac and Linux users.
Cons: Its described editing and authoring controls are basic, so users seeking a more involved production workflow may need another tool.
