Overview

The editor can change PDFs, including scans, without needing the original source files. Its mix of document editing, conversion, page tools and protection makes it useful for varied PDF work, but the free plan’s two-page and five-conversion-task caps make it a poor fit for routine workloads.

Key features

PDF Agile converts PDFs to and from Word, Excel and PowerPoint while preserving fonts and formatting. It also handles PDF, TXT, image and CAD formats, with OCR and batch conversion. That range helps users move between office files and PDFs, although the free plan’s conversion quota limits how often it can do so.

Annotation options include highlighting, underlining, strikethrough, text, shapes and freehand drawing. Users can password-protect files, permanently redact text and illustrations, and add electronic signatures in three ways. Other tools include compression, merging, splitting, cropping, rotation, page rearrangement and numbering, plus links, presentations, screenshots, search, printing, bookmarks and backgrounds. This is a broad toolkit for document handling, rather than a narrow converter.

Browser tools cover conversion, organization, compression, protection, unlocking and page rearrangement. The online Protect PDF tool uses 256-bit SSL encryption and automatically deletes uploaded files within 24 hours. That provides a stated safeguard for files processed online, while desktop editing is also available for users who prefer not to rely on browser tools.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows two pages and five conversion tasks. That is enough for occasional, small jobs, but not for regular conversion or longer documents.

The Semi-Annual Plan is 39.00 USD per month, the Annual Plan is 59.00 USD per month, and the Lifetime Plan is 119.00 USD per month. Each is a one-time payment with unlimited conversion; PDF Agile says plans purchased since 2023 have no recurring charges. These plans suit users who need conversion without task limits, though a purchased license can be used on only two computers through the account system. The Semi-Annual and Annual names do not change the stated one-time payment terms.

Platforms

PDF Agile supports web, Windows and macOS. The computer license limit of two devices matters for users who move among multiple computers. Support is available by email, with user guides and FAQs also provided.

Who it's for

PDF Agile is a strong fit for individuals who regularly edit, convert, annotate and secure PDFs, especially when office formats and scans are part of the workflow. The free plan works better for occasional short documents. Users needing a license across more than two computers or an API should look elsewhere; API access is not offered.

Pros and cons

Pros: Edits scans without source files, and converts to and from major Office formats while preserving formatting.
Pros: Combines annotations, permanent redaction, signatures and extensive page-management tools.
Pros: Paid plans include unlimited conversion with one-time payment terms.
Cons: The free plan’s two-page and five-task caps sharply restrict ongoing use.
Cons: Each purchased license covers up to two computers, limiting use across larger device setups.

Verdict

Choose PDF Agile if you want a wide desktop-and-web PDF toolkit and expect to convert without quotas under a one-time plan. Its main draw is the combination of editing, conversion and document controls; the capped free tier and two-computer license are the clearest reasons to choose another tool.
