Overview

PDF Candy is a cross-platform toolkit for people who move between editing, conversion and PDF file management. It is a stronger fit for varied document tasks than for someone seeking one specialized tool; its wide range and Windows offline app are balanced by meaningful free-plan limits.

Developed by the Icecream Apps team, PDF Candy has been offered since 2016. Its toolkit includes text editing, annotations, OCR, conversion, merging, splitting, compression, signing and protection. The company says its service draws more than 3 million monthly visitors.

Key features

Tools, AI and cloud connections

PDF Candy brings 98 PDF tools together and supports 19 languages. AI features can summarize, chat with and translate PDF documents, extending the service beyond routine file changes. Google Drive and Dropbox support lets users import documents and save processed versions back to cloud storage, a useful fit for cloud-based workflows.

Windows desktop and file security

PDF Candy Desktop offers 35 Windows tools that can work offline. That is a meaningful option for users who want desktop processing or need to work without an internet connection, though it does not make the desktop download a cross-platform app.

PDF Candy says uploaded and created files are deleted from its servers within two hours of processing. It also says file transfers use HTTPS with TLS/SSL and that documents are protected with 256-bit AES encryption in transit and at rest. The company states that its platform complies with GDPR and uses ISO 27001-certified data centers.

Pricing

The free Web + Desktop Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free. Page and hourly restrictions, limited file size, no batch processing and a desktop operations limit make it best for occasional, modest jobs rather than sustained or high-volume work.

Web Monthly costs 6.00 USD per month and includes web access, no hourly limits, tasks up to 500 MB and high-priority processing. It suits regular online users who need larger files or predictable access, but does not include desktop access.

Desktop + Web Yearly costs 4.00 USD per year and includes both web and desktop access, no hourly limits, tasks up to 500 MB, high-priority processing, Video Candy WEB and Image Candy WEB. It is the broadest listed subscription for users wanting both environments and the extra web products. The listed annual price is lower than the monthly plan, though the two plans differ in scope.

Desktop + Web Lifetime costs 99.00 USD per month, billed pay once. It provides web and desktop access plus permanent access to a specific software version. That version-specific term matters: it is not a promise of perpetual access to every future release.

Students and teachers can get one year of online PRO at no cost, with no hourly limits and uploads up to 500 MB. Paid-plan billing terms are explicit for the monthly, yearly and lifetime options; technical support aims to respond within two business days if the Help Center cannot resolve an order issue. PDF Candy offers a full refund within 30 days when recurring errors cannot be resolved within a reasonable period.

Platforms

PDF Candy supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. The offline desktop app is specifically for Windows; users on other supported platforms can use the web service.

Who it's for

PDF Candy is well suited to people who need several kinds of PDF work in one place, especially users who value cloud storage connections, AI document tools or offline Windows processing. Its free tier can serve occasional users, but its caps are a poor fit for frequent batch work or large files. Education users have a particularly useful route to a year of online PRO access.

Pros and cons

Broad toolkit: 98 PDF tools cover editing, OCR, conversion and file management, reducing the need to switch between narrowly focused services.
AI and cloud features: Document summarizing, chat and translation combine with Google Drive and Dropbox import and export.
Offline Windows option: 35 desktop tools can operate without an internet connection.
Free-tier constraints: Page and hourly restrictions, limited file size, no batch processing and desktop operation caps limit regular use.
Platform distinction: Although the service supports six platforms, offline desktop use is Windows-only.
Version-limited lifetime access: The one-time purchase covers a specific software version, not every future version.

Alternatives

For a no-cost option with no usage or time restrictions, PDF24 Compare PDF has a free plan with no limits, registration or time restrictions; choose it when those terms matter more than PDF Candy’s broader toolkit.

PDF2Go offers access to most tools on its free plan, with limited file processing, and may suit users comparing another freemium service. For focused choices, browse PDF Compression Software, PDF Merger Software or PDF editors.

Other options include Xodo Compress PDF, iLovePDF, Smallpdf, AvePDF, BentoPDF Hyper Compress and PDFOptim.

Verdict

Choose PDF Candy if you want a broad PDF toolkit with AI features, cloud storage connections and, on Windows, offline desktop tools. Its free plan is useful for occasional work, but people handling frequent, large or batch jobs should weigh the paid options against the limits they remove. Look elsewhere if your needs are narrow or the free-tier caps are incompatible with your workload.
