Overview

Moesif tracks API usage across REST, GraphQL, XML/SOAP, and RPC, including incoming and outgoing calls. Teams can also add custom metrics for non-API traffic, which helps build a broader view of customer usage than API request counts alone.

Analytics include heat maps, time series, segmentation, funnels, retention charts, and customer behavior analysis. Monitoring and alerts address issues affecting API performance and customers. Monetization features extend from usage-based billing and billing meters to quotas, governance, prepaid credits, and a product catalog. The combination suits teams that want to analyze usage and act on it within one platform, though organizations seeking only an API gateway or billing engine may prefer a more focused tool.

Key features

Integrations cover API gateways and frameworks such as Kong, Amazon API Gateway, NGINX, Node.js, Python, Java, and .NET. Browser JavaScript, Segment, Google Tag Manager, Salesforce, Slack, PagerDuty, and Zapier integrations connect API activity with client and business tools. Funnel reports, retention and cohort analysis, and warehouse export are supported; session replay is not.

Moesif is a fully managed SaaS service running on AWS and Azure, and it supports APIs hosted on-premises or in the cloud. This gives teams flexibility in where their APIs run without requiring them to self-host Moesif itself. Moesif states that it maintains an active SOC 2 Type 2 attestation and encrypts data at rest and in motion in ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27017 compliant data centers. Security controls include client-side encryption with BYOK, sensitive-data masking, audit logs, enterprise SSO, and fine-grained access control.

Pricing

Moesif uses a freemium model with event-based pricing. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and is automatically applied after the 14-day trial.

The Growth trial runs for 14 days and includes all Growth features and 10,000,000 events. Growth has custom pricing; additional self-service events are billed monthly on a pay-as-you-go basis, and each additional team member costs $75/month. That structure can suit teams that need broader use during evaluation, but ongoing event volume and team growth can add charges. Paid plans include one year of data retention.

Enterprise also has custom pricing. It adds customizable data-retention policies, a secure proxy for sensitive data or compliance needs, and wire transfer/ACH payment. Enterprise prospects can request a proof of concept with deployment assistance. Customers can contact support at support@moesif.com.

Platforms

Moesif is available as a web-based managed service for APIs, with platform support spanning API, self-hosted, and web environments. Its own deployment remains SaaS; support for on-premises APIs does not mean the Moesif service itself is self-hosted.

Who it's for

Moesif is a strong fit for API-driven organizations and product-led teams that need to understand how customers and partners use APIs, monitor service issues, and connect consumption to monetization. Teams with varied API architectures may value its support for multiple protocols and integrations. It is less compelling for buyers who need session replay, require the Moesif service itself to run on-premises, or cannot forecast event and seat costs.

Pros and cons

Broad API coverage: REST, GraphQL, XML/SOAP, RPC, and custom non-API metrics support a wider usage picture.
Analytics tied to action: Monitoring, alerts, billing meters, quotas, and prepaid credits extend the platform beyond reporting.
Flexible API hosting: Teams can analyze APIs hosted on-premises or in the cloud while using a managed service.
Costs need attention: Extra self-service events are billed monthly, and additional Growth team members cost $75/month each.
Not a complete replay tool: Session replay is not supported.

Alternatives

Consider Gravitee API Gateway when the priority is an API gateway with a free Apache 2.0 community edition; its Planet plan is 2500.00 USD per month, while Moesif centers on analytics and monetization. Kong Gateway is another gateway option, with a 30-day free trial that includes no Gateway limits and 30 days of analytics retention.

Choose Lago if an AGPLv3-licensed, self-hosted open-source billing option is the better fit; its Premium plan is available in cloud or self-hosted deployments with custom pricing. Revenium may suit teams looking for a free Observe tier with 100,000 transactions/month, 7 days of data retention, and one user.

Stigg is worth considering for a free Build tier that includes a credits and entitlements engine, 5M usage events/mo, and up to 1K events/sec. Zuplo offers a free plan capped at 100K requests/month, with two account members and five environments.

Apigee API hub is a narrower choice for eligible Apigee organizations in supported regions, where it is available at no additional cost. Flexprice has a free plan with 100k events per month and subscription, usage-based, and hybrid pricing support, which may fit teams whose priorities center on billing capabilities.

Verdict

Moesif is a good choice for API-led product teams that want analytics, monitoring, and monetization tied together across varied API types and hosting environments. Its main advantage is that it connects usage analysis to billing and operational controls; its main drawback is that event overages and additional team members can raise costs. Choose it when that integrated view matters more than a fixed, simple price or session replay.
