Overview

Nimbus puts detection and staff alerts on by default while leaving punishments off until an operator configures them. That is a sensible safeguard against acting on unreviewed violations, but it makes Nimbus a poor fit for operators seeking an install-and-forget ban system. The intended workflow is to observe alerts, adjust checks, test enforcement and enable punishments only when ready.

Key features

Configurable detection

Nimbus offers 43 individually adjustable checks across movement, combat, world, packet and inventory categories. Coverage includes speed, flight, bunny hopping, reach, kill aura, auto-clicking, scaffolding and fast placement. This breadth gives operators control over what the server flags, while making calibration an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time setup.

Checks account for latency, server lag, movement buffs, teleports, knockback, flight toggles and join grace. Those factors matter on servers where ordinary gameplay conditions can resemble suspicious movement, though operators still need to review alerts before enabling punishments.

Staff and enforcement tools

Player reports, a staff inspection GUI, in-game check controls and violation logs give moderators ways to investigate activity and tune detection. Alert and punishment test commands help operators verify their setup. Available actions include configurable commands, kicks, temporary and permanent bans, freezes, setbacks, illegal-action cancellation and Discord notifications.

PlaceholderAPI, Discord webhooks, Citizens, LiteBans, and LuckPerms or another permissions plugin are optional integrations; PacketEvents is required. Nimbus also supports replay analysis, proxy use, staff notes, audit logs, group inheritance and temporary permissions. Its storage backend is YAML, and it has no staff web panel.

Pricing

Nimbus is free. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes 43 checks, Paper 1.21.8 support, per-check punishments, player reports, staff inspection tools and Discord webhook notifications. There are no paid tiers or published usage quotas to weigh against those features; the main cost is the operator time needed to tune checks and manage enforcement.

The separate Nimbus AntiCheat plan also costs 0.00 USD per free. Its terms specify Paper 1.21.8, Java 21, required PacketEvents and Java-edition players only; compatible forks may work. The two plan descriptions both identify the product as free, with the first emphasizing included tools and the second its operating requirements.

Platforms

Nimbus is a server plugin for Paper or a compatible fork, requires Java 21 and the standalone PacketEvents plugin, and targets Minecraft 1.21.x. It was built and tested against Paper 1.21.8; other 1.21.x builds may work but are untested. Java-edition players are supported, while Bedrock and Geyser players are not. Older versions including 1.8 and 1.20 are unsupported, so servers with mixed player editions or older client requirements should look elsewhere.

Who it's for

Nimbus fits operators who want free, adjustable cheat checks and staff investigation tools, and who can monitor alerts before enabling automated consequences. It is less suitable for servers that need Bedrock or Geyser support, older Minecraft versions, a web-based staff panel or unattended enforcement from the outset. Bug reports, false-positive reports and feature requests go through Discord or the SpigotMC Discussion tab.

Pros and cons

Pros: 43 individually tunable checks cover several cheat categories, giving operators control over what to flag.
Pros: Detection and alerting can be reviewed before punishments are enabled, with reports, logs, inspection tools and test commands supporting that process.
Pros: The free plan includes staff tools and Discord webhook notifications without a paid tier.
Cons: Java 21, PacketEvents and a supported Paper 1.21.x environment are required, limiting compatibility.
Cons: Bedrock and Geyser players are unsupported, as are older versions such as 1.8 and 1.20.
Cons: Operators must calibrate checks and enforcement themselves; there is no staff web panel.

Staff+ is free and supports Paper, Purpur and Folia 1.20–1.21+, as well as Velocity 3.3.0+. It may suit operators whose server platform or version falls within that range.

ExtraBan is a free Paper-or-fork plugin requiring version 26.2+ and Java 25+.

Player Report is a free Minecraft server plugin with native and tested support for major version 1.21.

ReportsGUI is a free server plugin for major Minecraft version 1.17, capped at 54 unhandled reports.

Verdict

Choose Nimbus if you run a supported Java-edition Paper server and want free, tunable cheat detection paired with tools to investigate alerts before imposing punishments. Look elsewhere if you need Bedrock or Geyser compatibility, older Minecraft versions, a staff web panel or a system that requires less operator calibration.
