Overview

Lyssna supports moderated and unmoderated studies, from interviews and surveys to usability tests. Teams can recruit participants themselves or draw on an on-demand panel of more than 690,000 people, with targeting across more than 395 demographic filters. That combination makes it useful for both quick checks with an existing audience and studies that need more deliberate participant targeting.

Key features

Research methods

Methods include card sorting, tree testing, first-click and five-second tests, preference and prototype testing, live website testing, surveys, and user interviews. The range lets teams match a study to a question, rather than forcing every task into a survey or interview. Mobile testing is in beta, so teams whose work depends on that capability should treat it as an emerging option rather than a mature part of the toolkit.

Analysis and collaboration

Lyssna provides AI and manual summaries, filters for demographics and responses, comments, CSV exports, and share links. These options support both quick review and further analysis outside the platform. Integrations with Figma, Google Calendar, Google Meet, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom connect the research workflow to common design, scheduling, and meeting tools.

Lyssna’s Trust Center lists SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance. Enterprise adds SSO, a SOC 2 report, priority support, and security audit assistance, which may matter to organizations with stricter security and procurement requirements.

Pricing

Lyssna uses a freemium model. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, includes three seats and unlimited quick studies, and lets teams view up to 15 responses from self-recruited tests and surveys. Live chat support is included. It is a practical way to try quick studies without a credit card, but the response cap limits its usefulness for repeated or larger projects.

Growth costs 166.00 USD per month, billed annually. It includes unlimited quick studies, five in-depth studies per month, five seats, and unlimited self-recruited test and survey responses. It suits teams that have outgrown the free response allowance and can work within a monthly in-depth-study quota. Compared with Free, its main trade-offs are the annual billing commitment and a fixed five-seat limit.

Enterprise has custom pricing and includes unlimited quick studies, custom in-depth studies, unlimited seats, priority support, SSO, and a SOC 2 report. It is the better fit for larger organizations needing more flexible study volume, broader access, or added security support.

Platforms

Lyssna is available on Android, iOS, and the web. Mobile testing is in beta, so its presence on mobile platforms should not be mistaken for a fully established mobile-testing capability.

Who it's for

Lyssna is a strong fit for teams that run varied remote research and want recruitment, study methods, and analysis tools together. The panel and demographic targeting can help when a team needs participants beyond its own customer base; self-recruitment remains an option for teams with their own audience. It is less compelling for a team that needs substantial self-recruited response volume on a free plan or more than five seats without moving to Enterprise.

Pros and cons

Broad range of study formats: supports both moderated and unmoderated research, from interviews to structured tests.
Recruitment choice: combines a large on-demand panel and demographic filters with self-recruited studies.
Useful analysis options: AI and manual summaries, filters, comments, CSV exports, and share links accommodate different review workflows.
Free plan has a firm ceiling: three seats and 15 self-recruited responses restrict ongoing research at no cost.
Growth has bounded capacity: five seats and five in-depth studies per month may constrain expanding teams.
Mobile testing remains beta: teams relying on this capability should weigh its status before choosing Lyssna.

Alternatives

For teams comparing research tools, see UX Research Software and Usability Testing Software.

Userfeel is worth considering if a free plan with three monthly credits, one admin, bring-your-own-tester support, and demographic filters suits a smaller testing workflow.
QuestionPunk may suit teams focused on AI interviews and follow-ups, with a free plan offering 20 responses per month and report export.
Trymata is an option for teams preferring pay-as-needed test credits over a subscription, with results stored for up to six months.
UXArmy may fit a solo researcher seeking a free plan with one full seat and 15 monthly credits, provided recordings and a participant panel are not needed.
Maze is another freemium alternative for teams comparing research platforms.
UXtweak may suit teams willing to work with one active study and 15 responses per month on its free plan.
HeyMarvin is another freemium alternative to consider.
MUiQ may be relevant to organizations seeking a paid platform with five included seats and unlimited concurrent studies and participant collection.

Verdict

Choose Lyssna if your team needs a broad mix of remote research methods, recruitment options, and analysis tools in one platform. Its clearest advantage is that range, while its main drawback for smaller teams is the free plan’s 15-response cap; teams needing more volume, seats, or mature mobile testing should weigh those limits before committing.
