Overview

Lokad is a supply chain decision platform for organizations that need forecasts translated into purchasing, allocation, pricing or prioritization choices. It is best suited to teams prepared to shape decision logic around their operations; the programming environment and managed support make it a less natural fit for buyers seeking a standard self-service planning tool.

Its probabilistic approach accounts for multiple possible futures and ties recommendations to financial impact and business objectives. That focus can help teams compare decisions by their business consequences rather than treating a forecast as the end product.

Key features

Probabilistic forecasts and scenario planning: Lokad quantifies possible future scenarios and supports scenario planning. This is useful when supply decisions need to account for uncertainty, though teams must still define the objectives those decisions should serve.
Automated supply chain calculations: The platform automates tasks such as reorder quantities, multi-echelon allocations, lead-time adjustments and repair schedules. It also supports replenishment recommendations, safety stock optimization, service-level targets, multi-location optimization and multi-echelon optimization, making it relevant to organizations managing decisions across locations or stages of a supply chain.
Envision programming environment: Lokad’s supply-chain-focused language is used to build applications that generate quantitative decisions. This provides a way to tailor decision logic, but makes the product a better fit for organizations willing to engage with that build approach than for buyers expecting a ready-made workflow.
Managed support: A typical managed subscription assigns one or more Supply Chain Scientists for end-to-end support. Support tiers are not differentiated, so buyers should not expect to select among published levels of service.
File-based data integration: Lokad recommends file transfer over FTPS or SFTP, with push and pull options. Native third-party app integrations are being phased out, so organizations relying on those integrations should weigh the file-transfer path before choosing it.
Security and compliance: Lokad describes automated and manual security testing, third-party penetration tests, a bug bounty program and automated release management. It is not ISO 27001 or SOC 2 compliant, which may rule it out for organizations that require either certification.

Pricing

Custom supply chain optimization subscription: custom pricing. The subscription is typically billed as a flat monthly fee determined by the agreed decision type and scope. Usage caps may apply; there is no perpetual license, and fees are typically not charged per user. This model can suit organizations buying a defined supply chain outcome rather than seats, but the scope-based fee and possible usage limits should be settled before commitment.

A free trial account can be requested by email, although Lokad may decline production trial requests. The free Envision Playground is a reduced version that requires no registration, but data submitted to it is not protected by an authentication mechanism. It is therefore not suitable for sensitive data.

Platforms

Lokad is available on the web. Its recommended file-transfer integration supports FTPS or SFTP, with either push or pull workflows.

Who it's for

Lokad serves industries including retail, aerospace, automotive, fashion, oil and gas, and manufacturing. It is a stronger fit for organizations that need quantitative decisions tied to financial objectives, especially where replenishment, inventory positioning, service levels or allocation span multiple locations or echelons. Buyers seeking a conventional, self-serve application or native third-party app integrations should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Probabilistic forecasts connect possible futures to financial impact, and the platform supports a broad set of supply chain optimization decisions.
Pros: Typical subscriptions include end-to-end support from Supply Chain Scientists without per-user pricing as the usual basis.
Cons: Envision’s programming approach and custom scope make the implementation less like adopting a standard off-the-shelf planning tool.
Cons: File transfer is the recommended integration route as native third-party app integrations are phased out.
Cons: The Playground lacks authentication for submitted data, and Lokad does not hold ISO 27001 or SOC 2 compliance.
