Overview

Positionly is an SEO service for monitoring search rankings and investigating the sites competing for them. It is best suited to businesses and agencies that need daily rank checks alongside backlink, audit, and reporting tools; its main trade-off is that keyword, site, and user limits rise by plan.

The free tier is a narrow starting point, while the paid plans scale from a solo-user setup to large multi-site accounts. Choose it when a combined monitoring and reporting workflow matters more than a generous entry-level keyword allowance.

Key features

Rank tracking and competitor research

Positionly checks every keyword once every 24 hours, with results appearing around noon in the user's time zone. Local and global search engines are supported, and historical rankings help teams follow movement rather than rely on a one-day snapshot. Competitor comparisons include current and past rankings as well as overlapping keywords, useful for identifying where rivals share search territory.

Backlink review and site audits

The backlink tools, powered by Majestic, allow keyword-level searches, competitor backlink analysis, and link-quality review. The website auditor checks crawlability and identifies missing keywords. Together, these features make Positionly more than a position tracker, though its value depends on whether a team will use the broader research tools.

Reporting and collaboration

Reports can be branded, customized, automated, exported as CSV or PDF, and run manually or on a schedule. Clients and colleagues can be invited with read or write access to one or more sites. Higher tiers add white-label options, including custom domain, colors, company name, logo, and removal of Positionly branding. Google Analytics integration is listed, and add-ons can sync with Google Spreadsheets.

Pricing

Positionly offers a free plan, a 14-day trial with no obligation or credit card required to start, and paid plans billed annually. The free plan includes 5 keywords and 1 website, enough to try a small setup but too restrictive for ongoing monitoring across a meaningful portfolio.

Plan	Price and limits	Best fit
Basic	$15.00 USD per month, billed 12 months (20% off); 100 keywords, 10 websites, 10 competitors, 2,500 backlinks, 1 user	A solo user tracking a modest keyword set across several sites.
Medium	$39.00 USD per month, billed 12 months (20% off); 500 keywords, 20 websites, 20 competitors, 10,000 backlinks, 5 users	Small teams that need shared access and more monitoring capacity.
Standard	$79.00 USD per month, billed 12 months (20% off); 2,000 keywords, 50 websites, 50 competitors, 20,000 backlinks, 10 users, API	Growing operations that need API access and room for multiple collaborators.
Agency	$159.00 USD per month, billed 12 months (20% off); 5,000 keywords, 100 websites, 100 competitors, 50,000 backlinks, 20 users, API, white label	Agencies reporting across many client sites under their own branding.
Platinum	$399.00 USD per month, billed 12 months (20% off); 12,000 keywords, 500 websites, 500 competitors, 150,000 backlinks, 100 users, API, white label	Large agencies or organizations managing extensive site portfolios.

The Basic plan's one-user cap rules out shared workflows, while the free tier's five-keyword ceiling is only a small-scale trial. Medium and higher plans add seats and capacity; API access starts at Standard, and white labeling starts at Agency. Email contact and phone numbers for configuring a custom plan are offered.

Platforms

Positionly supports web, iOS, Android, and API access on applicable paid plans. Mobile apps give users a way to access the service beyond the web interface.

Who it's for

Positionly suits marketers and agencies that want regular ranking checks combined with competitor, backlink, and crawlability review, particularly when automated branded reports are part of client or team workflows. It is a weaker fit for users who only need a handful of keywords, or teams needing API access before the Standard tier.

Pros and cons

Pro: Daily checks, ranking history, and local and global search support provide a recurring view of search positions.
Pro: Competitor, backlink, and audit tools add research context to rank tracking.
Pro: Scheduled branded exports and granular read/write access support recurring reporting and collaboration.
Con: The free plan stops at 5 keywords and 1 website, so it cannot support substantial monitoring.
Con: Basic permits only 1 user, and API and white-label features require higher-priced tiers.

Alternatives

Geogrid is worth considering when a free allowance of 200 credits and a weekly scheduled rescan better suit a local rank-tracking workflow.
Raven Tools is an alternative for buyers whose plan needs fit its Small Biz option of 2 domains/campaigns, 2 users, and 1,500 position checks at $39.00 USD per year.
Topvisor may suit users prioritizing unlimited projects and unlimited keywords on its free XS plan.
Zutrix may fit teams seeking a 250-keyword Starter plan with weekly SERP checks and 2 team members for $19.00 USD per month.
CanIRank is another option for readers comparing SEO tools.
FreeSERP may suit a smaller project needing a free 100-credit allowance and 10 keywords per project.
GBP Rank Tracker is another option for readers comparing rank trackers.
Grid My Business may suit users who need a free plan with unlimited keywords, 5 competitors, and 250 scan credits for 2 business profiles.

Verdict

Positionly is a strong choice for teams that want daily rank monitoring tied to competitor research, backlinks, audits, and client-ready reporting. Its broad toolkit and scalable plans are the case for choosing it; the small free allowance, single-user Basic tier, and higher thresholds for API and white labeling are good reasons to look elsewhere.
