Overview

Visitors can start a conversation on a business’s website and continue it over text with Podium’s AI Employee. The chat widget can collect lead information before the conversation begins, and Podium says its AI can reply instantly in a natural, conversational tone. Businesses can customize the widget’s colors and messaging to match their brand.

Webchat also tracks visitor engagement and click behavior, then brings leads and interactions from multiple platforms into a shared inbox. The product page displays integrations including QuickBooks, Mindbody, Nextech, HubSpot, Outlook, Mailchimp, Shopify, Salesforce, Dentrix, DealerSocket, and Square. Their presence may suit businesses with an existing software mix, though the integration names alone do not establish what each connection can do.

Key features

Website-to-text conversations: Visitors can begin on the website and continue over text, extending the exchange beyond the original page.
Lead capture: The widget can collect lead information before a conversation starts, giving businesses a way to gather details at the point of inquiry.
AI replies: Podium says its AI responds instantly in a conversational tone. This may help keep replies moving, while businesses should weigh that against their need for direct agent conversations.
Visitor tracking: Click-path history records engagement and click behavior on the business website, adding context about how visitors interact with it.
Shared inbox: Leads and interactions from multiple platforms can be managed together, which may help teams handling conversations across channels.
Brand customization: Businesses can adjust the widget’s colors and messaging rather than use an unadapted presentation.

Pricing

Webchat is free with Podium Starter. Podium’s pricing process asks businesses to choose an industry and request a custom quote, so the price for a business’s wider Podium setup depends on its quote rather than a published rate.

The free availability is a useful starting point for businesses considering Webchat, but it does not provide a published basis for comparing paid costs. Podium Pass, the Chrome extension, is in beta and requires both a Podium account and the Chrome browser. Businesses should account for those requirements if they expect to use the extension.

Platforms

Podium offers desktop apps for macOS and Windows and a mobile app linked to the App Store and Google Play. Podium Pass is a Chrome extension. Webchat is also listed for web, Android, and iOS, alongside extension and desktop platforms.

Who it's for

Podium describes its platform as serving local businesses, including auto dealerships, home services, aesthetics, and retail. Webchat is a stronger fit for those businesses when they want website inquiries to continue over text and need a shared inbox for interactions across platforms. Businesses seeking a standalone chat tool with a clearly published paid price may prefer to compare alternatives first.

Pros and cons

Pro: Website conversations can continue over text, giving visitors a path to keep communicating after they leave the site.
Pro: Lead capture and click-path history combine visitor details with engagement context.
Pro: A shared inbox brings leads and interactions from multiple platforms together.
Con: Custom-quote pricing makes it difficult to compare the cost of a broader Podium setup upfront.
Con: Podium Pass requires a Podium account and Chrome, limiting its fit for businesses without that setup.

Verdict

Choose Podium Webchat if your local business wants website inquiries to continue over text and benefits from collecting leads, tracking visitor behavior, and managing interactions in a shared inbox. Its main appeal is connecting those steps in one workflow; its main drawback is that custom-quote pricing requires a request before you can judge the full cost.
