Overview

Impactive brings peer-to-peer and broadcast texting together with phone banking, relational messaging, canvassing, voter registration and custom forms. That breadth can help organizing teams coordinate volunteer activity and gather responses in one platform; teams needing only a basic texting tool may find it more than they need. Founded in 2017, Impactive is now part of ActBlue.

Key features

Texting and safeguards

Peer-to-peer texting includes list management, reporting, dynamic scripts and conversation reassignment, as well as volunteer protection features. Opt-out keyword monitoring, limits on frequent messages and filters for landlines, disconnected numbers and numbers with recent errors address practical campaign risks. SMS and MMS, automated opt-in tools and a shared team inbox support team-based messaging.

Texting cannot start until 10DLC registration is approved, and current timelines are 1–3 weeks. Registration through Impactive is free, but the wait matters for campaigns with a fixed launch date. List scrubbing is also free.

Integrations and data

Native integrations include NGP VAN/EveryAction, PDI, Salsa Labs and ActBlue. NGP VAN/EveryAction and PDI support two-way sync, which the site says runs near real time. Enterprise clients can use Postgres mirror databases, query a live database or build custom pipelines with S3 sync. Those options make the higher tier more compelling for organizations with substantial data workflows than for small teams seeking straightforward outreach.

Support and security

Written and video documentation and helpdesk ticketing are listed for the platform. Professional and Enterprise add weekly training and office hours, while Enterprise also includes a dedicated strategy advisor. Impactive says it works with third-party firms on ongoing security audits and bug bounty programs.

Pricing

Standard has a $0 licensing fee and pay-as-you-go usage. It includes 1,000 unique form responses per month; SMS starts as low as 1.5¢ per segment, MMS costs 5¢ per message, and phone banking starts as low as 4¢ per dial. This is the sensible starting point for teams with modest form needs, but the free license does not make messaging or calls free, and costs will rise with activity.

Professional uses custom pricing and includes 5,000 unique form responses per month plus pay-as-you-go texting and calling. It suits teams that need more form capacity and the added training and office hours, though variable outreach charges still apply. Enterprise also has custom pricing, raises the monthly form allowance to 10,000, and adds full-service data integration alongside pay-as-you-go texting and calling. Its database options and dedicated strategy advisor better suit organizations with complex data needs; smaller teams may not need those capabilities.

Impactive says there are no contracts or minimums. Standard’s 1,000-response monthly cap and pay-as-you-go charges are the key constraints; the paid tiers increase form capacity but do not remove usage-based calling and texting costs.

Platforms

Impactive is available on Android, iOS and the web, giving teams mobile and browser access.

Who it's for

Impactive is best suited to advocacy organizations, nonprofits, unions and electoral campaigns that coordinate multiple outreach methods, rely on campaign data integrations or need volunteers to share messaging work. It is less suitable for a group that wants a simple standalone text service, cannot wait for 10DLC approval or needs predictable all-in costs.

Pros and cons

Pros: Multiple outreach channels sit alongside forms, helping teams coordinate texting, calls, canvassing and voter registration.
Pros: Messaging safeguards, a shared inbox and conversation reassignment support volunteer-led texting at scale.
Pros: Two-way near-real-time sync with NGP VAN/EveryAction and PDI can reduce friction for teams working in those systems.
Cons: Standard’s $0 licensing fee still leaves SMS, MMS and phone banking usage charges to budget for.
Cons: Teams must wait for approved 10DLC registration before texting, with current timelines of 1–3 weeks.
Cons: Standard is capped at 1,000 unique form responses a month; higher caps require custom-priced plans.

Verdict
