Overview

Hadeda is a utility billing platform for managers of multi-unit properties, pairing a property portal with an app for residents. It is best suited to South African estates and buildings that need to bill residents for metered water. Its practical appeal is the link between submeter readings, resident statements and collections; its current focus is narrower than its planned utility range.

Founded in Cape Town in 2018, Hadeda lets managers handle tenants, meters, tariffs, bills and payments across a property. Residents can check meter data, receive a combined rent-and-utilities statement and pay in the app. Submetering and support for commercial properties make it relevant beyond residential estates, but electricity, gas and prepaid billing are still rolling out.

Key features

Resident billing and collections

Postpaid billing is live, with payment due monthly on the 1st, and residents can pay online through the app. Combining rent and utility charges into one statement gives residents a single place to review those costs, while managers can administer bills and payments from the portal. The live utility service is water, so properties looking to run current electricity or gas billing through Hadeda should look elsewhere for now.

Metering, alerts and reporting

Hadeda supports ultrasonic, smart-mechanical and electromagnetic meters for domestic, zonal and bulk use; its current fleet includes Kamstrup and Axioma ultrasonic meters. That range supports different property layouts, though suitability depends on the installed meter and connectivity setup. The platform checks for leak patterns, sends alerts and can support remote shutoff when smart valves are installed. App alerts also cover bill increases and unusual usage, with charts spanning hourly through yearly views.

Monthly reports bring together readings, usage, charges, meter health and bulk-versus-unit totals, with Excel and CSV export. This gives managers material for reviewing consumption and reconciling property-level and unit-level totals. Hadeda supports Sigfox, LoRaWAN and fixed-radio deployments, and offers third-party API integration with property systems.

Reliability, privacy and support

Meter transmissions, connectivity and third-party systems can be interrupted, which may delay readings or lead to later corrections. Operators should account for that possibility when relying on timely meter data. Hadeda says it uses Firebase Authentication and Google Cloud, aligns its privacy policy with POPIA, and may store data outside South Africa. Users may request access, correction or deletion of personal information by email.

Support is available by email and phone or WhatsApp. Email replies are within one business day; phone support runs Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 SAST. That schedule is useful for weekday operations but does not cover weekends.

Pricing

Hadeda is paid software with pricing on request, so buyers need a quote to assess cost against their property size and billing needs. There are no published plan tiers, seat allowances, quotas or trial terms to compare. It is therefore a better fit for operators prepared to discuss requirements directly than for buyers who need a known subscription cost before shortlisting.

Platforms

Hadeda supports Android, iOS and web. Residents can use the mobile app for meter data, statements and payments, while managers have a web portal for property administration.

Who it's for

Hadeda is aimed at South African estates, body corporates, property managers, owners and municipalities managing buildings with many units. It is a strong fit where submetered water billing, online collections and resident-facing statements are priorities. Commercial property support broadens its potential use, but teams needing live electricity, gas or prepaid billing should wait until those capabilities are in place or choose a different solution.

Pros and cons

Resident and manager workflows connect: Managers handle property billing in the portal while residents can review meter data, receive a combined statement and pay in the app.
Useful monitoring and exports: Leak and unusual-usage alerts, meter-health reporting and CSV or Excel exports support ongoing oversight.
Current utility scope is limited: Water is live, while electricity, gas and prepaid billing are still rolling out.
Connectivity can affect readings: Transmission or third-party interruptions may delay or correct meter readings.
Costs require a quote: The paid model has no published price for buyers to evaluate upfront.
