Overview

Gizmo combines AI summaries, flashcards, and quizzes with tools for working from several common learning sources. It runs on the web, iOS, and Android, so it can suit learners who move between a computer and a phone. A free plan provides a way to start without a paid subscription.

Key features

Convert learning materials

Gizmo can summarize YouTube videos and PDFs, or turn either into flashcards. Notes can be converted into cards, while PowerPoint presentations can be summarized or converted into flashcards. This breadth is useful for students who study from mixed media and want more than a manual card-making workflow. AI quizzes add another way to practise, though the available features do not establish how much users can customize the generated material.

Flashcard tools

A dedicated Flashcard Maker complements the conversion tools, and Quizlet is among Gizmo’s available tools. The role of the Quizlet tool is unclear, so it should not be the deciding reason to choose Gizmo. The stronger case is the set of named routes from source material to summaries and cards.

Pricing

Gizmo is freemium, with a free plan. The free option is the sensible starting point for learners who want to assess the study workflow before paying, but its usage caps are not established here, so it is difficult to judge whether it will cover sustained study.

The Long-term plan is an unlimited subscription billed up front for 365 days. It auto-renews yearly until canceled, making it a better fit for someone comfortable with an annual commitment than for a learner seeking a short trial. The Last minute plan is an unlimited subscription on a weekly recurring basis; that shorter billing cycle may fit temporary study needs, but recurring weekly billing is worth weighing carefully.

Neither plan has a stated price. Apple-device subscriptions are managed through the user’s Apple ID in device Settings, and prices vary by device and region. Eligible users may see a student discount toggle. Gizmo provides subscription and payment help articles, and directs users to contact support with additional questions.

Platforms

Gizmo is available on web, iOS, and Android. Mobile apps are covered on both Apple and Android devices; Apple subscribers manage subscriptions in device Settings.

Who it's for

Gizmo is best suited to students and other learners who want to turn existing YouTube videos, PDFs, notes, or PowerPoint presentations into multiple kinds of review aids. It is less compelling for someone who only needs a basic flashcard app, or who needs clear pricing and free-plan limits before deciding.

Pros and cons

Pro: YouTube, PDF, note, and PowerPoint workflows give learners several ways to make study material from sources they already use.
Pro: Summaries, flashcards, and quizzes support different forms of review rather than limiting the product to one study format.
Con: The free plan’s usage limits are unclear, making it hard to know whether it can support regular study without upgrading.

Alternatives

Consider Knowt if you want a freemium web and mobile study tool with unlimited file creation, live collaboration, storage, and access to five million resources on its Basic plan. StudyGlen may suit someone who prefers a one-time purchase: its Mini Pack costs 4.99 USD per once and includes 10 study credits, five regenerations per day, and credits that never expire; it also offers a free trial.

RemNote is worth considering for learners who need annotated PDFs, image occlusion cards, or handwritten documents: its free plan includes three annotated PDFs, five image occlusion cards, one handwritten document, 20 files per day, files up to 8MB, and 250 AI credits per month. Quizlet is another freemium study option, with paid plans that specify monthly allowances for practice tests, Learn questions, or solutions.

Jambo may be a better fit for learners who want defined free card and AI-generation caps: its free plan includes 2,000 cards, 15 decks, five AI generations per day, and 100 translations per day. Brainscape offers a Basic plan with 2,500 pre-loaded flashcards and a Pro plan at 7.99 USD per year that includes unlimited AI flashcard creation.

Vaia is another freemium option for web and mobile. Mindomax is a free macOS alternative with unlimited cards in one box on its Free Forever plan.

Verdict

Choose Gizmo if you want one tool to make summaries, flashcards, and quizzes from a mix of video, PDF, notes, and presentation material. Its strongest advantage is that source-format range. Look elsewhere if you need transparent subscription prices or clearly bounded free usage before committing.
