Overview

Fungies is a Merchant of Record platform for selling software, games, subscriptions, downloads, and other digital products. Its no-code store builder combines more than 20 templates with custom domains, hosting, and a CDN. That gives sellers a ready-made storefront option; teams with an existing product can instead connect checkout through hosted, overlay, or embedded flows.

Fungies handles tax registration, calculation, collection, remittance, and filing across all 27 EU states, the UK, US sales tax, and GST. That breadth can simplify tax administration for sellers reaching customers across markets. The platform says it supports more than 250 payment methods in over 150 countries, spanning cards, wallets, bank methods, buy-now-pay-later options, and crypto.

Key features

Storefront and checkout

The store builder is described as taking about five minutes to set up, a practical route for sellers who do not want to build a storefront themselves. Checkout is PCI-compliant and localized for customer language, currency, and payment methods. The multi-channel options suit both standalone stores and teams integrating sales into an existing web experience.

Subscriptions and delivery

Recurring billing includes trials, usage-based plans, customer self-service portals, invoicing, and dunning with retry logic. This makes Fungies relevant beyond one-off downloads, particularly for SaaS and subscription businesses. Digital delivery is also included, alongside support for selling game assets and other digital goods.

Developer tools and security

Developers can work with a REST API, webhooks, JavaScript SDK, React components, Unity and Unreal SDKs, CLI, and MCP server. Integrations include Stripe, Google Tag Manager, Google Merchant Center, and Trustpilot. Payment-card data is handled by PCI DSS-compliant providers through tokenized integrations; Fungies says it does not receive or store full card numbers. It also describes encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege role access, multi-factor authentication for administrators, separation of production and non-production environments, and security-event monitoring.

One important constraint is that payments have no separate test mode: purchases made through checkout are real transactions. That makes care during payment integration essential. Support is available by email, while integration questions are answered fastest in the Fungies Discord.

Pricing

Fungies has one published plan, Free forever, at 0.00 USD per free. There is no monthly fee, setup cost, or per-seat charge, and the plan allows unlimited products, plans, and assets. Every feature is included, so sellers do not have to move to a higher tier to access the platform’s core capabilities.

The trade-off is the transaction fee: 5% + 50¢ per sale. This avoids fixed costs for sellers with low or unpredictable sales, but the charge applies as sales grow and should be weighed against the value of bundled checkout, subscription, delivery, and tax handling. The plan is not a payment sandbox; checkout purchases remain real transactions.

Platforms

Fungies supports web and API access. Its developer tools include SDKs for JavaScript, React, Unity, and Unreal, as well as a CLI and MCP server.

Who it's for

Fungies is best suited to SaaS companies, game developers, and digital creators who sell digital goods internationally or need recurring billing alongside checkout. Its store builder fits sellers starting without a storefront, while API and SDK options serve teams integrating sales into their own products. Sellers who need a separate test environment for payment transactions should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pro: One plan includes every feature, unlimited products, plans, and assets, with no monthly, setup, or per-seat charge.
Pro: The combination of subscription tools and broad tax handling supports both recurring sales and cross-border digital commerce.
Pro: Multiple checkout modes and developer tools suit both hosted storefronts and product integrations.
Con: A 5% + 50¢ fee on every sale can become a substantial cost as sales volume rises.
Con: No separate payment test mode means checkout purchases during testing are real transactions.

Alternatives

Merchant of Record Software is a useful starting point for comparing the wider category. Polar is worth considering for sellers who want a free Starter plan with all features to sell and standard support; its listed Starter transaction fee is also 5% + 50¢. Lemon Squeezy is another option for sellers seeking an ecommerce plan with no monthly charge and transaction fees when sales are generated. Tebex may suit sellers who prefer a GBP-priced Starter plan with unlimited packages, while its platform fee differs for most games and FiveM. Freemius is an alternative with transaction pricing and no setup or monthly fees, including no extra fee for cart recovery or failed-payment recovery. Gumroad offers direct sales and a Discover marketplace with different transaction charges. Whop is an alternative for high-volume businesses seeking tailored rates and volume-based pricing. Coda and Aquadratic are also options to compare.

Verdict

Choose Fungies if you are a SaaS company, game developer, or digital creator who wants storefront or integrated checkout, subscription billing, digital delivery, and Merchant of Record tax handling in one platform without monthly or seat fees. Its breadth and unlimited product allowance are compelling, but the 5% + 50¢ per-sale charge and lack of a separate payment test mode are meaningful drawbacks. Sellers who prioritize avoiding that transaction cost or need payment testing without real purchases should compare other options.
