Overview

Drooms brings document and stakeholder management together for workflows such as due diligence, M&A, fundraising, asset management, and non-performing loan portfolios. Founded in 2001 by M&A and legal experts, the company is headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, and Zug, Switzerland.

For confidential work, it pairs collaboration tools with access controls, audit trails, and document watermarking. Its European data infrastructure and stated security measures will appeal to teams with strict governance needs, though the right plan depends heavily on how much storage and how many user licenses a project requires.

Key features

Review and deal collaboration

The Q&A workspace supports approval levels, attachments, and links among questions, answers, and documents. That keeps deal discussions tied to the relevant material rather than leaving them detached from the review process. Notes & Highlights support collaborative document review; audit trails and watermarking add oversight useful for sensitive projects.

AI and workflow tools

Drooms lists AI tools for redaction, document naming and allocation, translation, and question answering. Business includes full AI capability, while Professional includes Drooms Intelligence, limited redaction, and document translation. That distinction matters for teams choosing between broad AI access and a lower-seat configuration.

An API factsheet describes functions for creating data rooms, managing users, SSO, CRM synchronization, and importing reporting data. This may suit organizations connecting rooms to existing processes, while the specific integration work depends on their systems.

Access, security, and availability

SSO, two-factor authentication, and granular permissions at both user and document level give administrators useful controls over who can see sensitive material. Drooms says transfers are SSL-secured with AES 256-bit encryption, and cites ISO 27001:2022 and ISO 27018:2020 certifications. It says data is processed and stored within European infrastructure, with georedundant servers there, and states 99.9% annual system availability. The company also says it conducts internal and external security audits and penetration tests.

Drooms advertises round-the-clock expert support, but Starter is specifically limited to 24/7 email support. Teams needing a different support channel should account for that distinction when selecting a plan.

Mobile access

The iOS app supports Q&A, access control, document browsing, folder management, AI Assistant, chat, notifications, and translations. Sign-in can use a password, SSO, or Face ID. That makes mobile review more than simple document viewing, although Drooms is also available on the web.

Pricing

Drooms has a free Starter plan and paid tiers, with paid pricing shown from €19/mo. The displayed prices and entitlements make storage and license limits especially important to compare before committing.

Starter — 0.00 EUR per free: 150 MB storage, 2 user licenses, 3 data room projects, and 24/7 email support only. It is a useful no-cost way to begin a very small project, but the storage, seat, and project ceilings quickly constrain larger reviews.
Business — 19.00 EUR per month: 2–10 GB storage, 20–100 user licenses, unlimited projects, and full AI capability. It is the more expansive option for teams that need many users or broad AI access. The page shows €19/mo and €19 annually alongside monthly and annual options, so confirm the applicable billing terms before purchase.
Professional — 19.00 EUR per month: 500 MB–10 GB storage, 2–20 user licenses, unlimited projects, Drooms Intelligence, limited redaction, and document translation. It fits smaller teams that need unlimited projects and selected AI tools, but offers fewer licenses than Business. The page shows €19/mo with monthly billing and €19 annually, and says annual billing saves 10%.
Enterprise — custom pricing: Tailored configurations, dedicated onboarding, a customer success manager, premium features, and priority support, with flexible billing by agreement. This is aimed at organizations needing a customized setup rather than a published fixed tier.

The plan descriptions show different storage and license ranges, while Drooms separately gives storage included as 0.5 GB. Check the precise configuration offered for the plan and project you are considering.

Platforms

Drooms is available on the web and iOS. Its mobile app covers deal collaboration and access controls as well as document browsing, making it useful for participants who need to review or respond away from a desktop.

Who it's for

Drooms is a strong fit for teams running confidential transactions or other document-heavy projects that benefit from controlled access, connected Q&A, and collaborative review. Its European infrastructure and stated certifications may also matter to organizations with security and data-location requirements. It is less compelling for a small group with modest needs if Starter’s 150 MB and two licenses are too restrictive, or for buyers who need pricing and plan terms to be unambiguous before comparing tiers.

Pros and cons

Pros: Granular user- and document-level permissions, SSO, and two-factor authentication provide several access-control layers.
Pros: Q&A links questions, answers, and documents, while Notes & Highlights support collaborative review.
Pros: European georedundant infrastructure, named ISO certifications, and a stated 99.9% annual availability address important governance concerns.
Cons: Starter’s 150 MB, two licenses, and three-project cap make it unsuitable for substantial or multi-party work.
Cons: Professional’s AI offering is narrower than Business’s full AI capability, and its license range tops out at 20 rather than Business’s 100.
Cons: The displayed Business and Professional billing descriptions are not straightforward to reconcile, so buyers should verify the applicable term and configuration.

Alternatives

For other options, see Data Room Software. Ansarada may suit users who want to prepare a room for free before it goes live, or for up to 90 days after creation, whichever comes first; it is web-based and has a free plan.

Ellty is another web-based freemium option with a free trial; its Standard plan lists one user, 50 GB per user, a 2 GB maximum upload, and 200 assets per room. Peony offers a free plan capped at 50 documents, while its Business tier is 30.00 USD per month billed annually for up to 1,000 documents and three data rooms per admin.

Nobon Data Room, Papermark, Plox, Virtual Vaults, and Daroom are also web-based freemium alternatives with free plans.

Verdict

Choose Drooms for confidential deal workflows where permissions, connected Q&A, collaborative review, and European data infrastructure matter more than a minimal setup. Its range from a capped free tier to configurable enterprise service can accommodate different project scales, but the Starter limits are modest and the paid billing descriptions warrant confirmation. Look elsewhere if you need a simple, clearly comparable price and capacity before deciding.
