Overview

Cyph brings secure instant messaging together with encrypted group video calls and scheduled meetings. Cyph Vault extends the service beyond conversations, storing files, passwords, notes and cryptocurrency. That makes it a better fit for people seeking a privacy-focused toolkit than for someone who only needs a basic messenger.

Cyph says it uses multiple quantum-resistant ciphers and automatically guards against impersonation without manual fingerprint checks. Its patented WebSign technology is intended to verify the web app’s integrity whenever it opens. The site reports that a Cure53 security audit found no major issues in application security or cryptographic implementations. These are meaningful parts of Cyph’s security approach, though no single measure can settle whether it meets a particular user’s requirements.

Key features

Messaging, calls and Vault

Encrypted instant messaging covers everyday conversations, while group video calling and scheduled meetings support planned discussions. Vault adds encrypted storage for several kinds of sensitive data, making Cyph more versatile than a messaging-only service. The trade-off is that anyone who does not need storage or meetings may find that breadth unnecessary.

Telehealth

Cyph Telehealth is a separate offering for patient sessions and records. It includes live group video sessions, unlimited patient sessions, one-click patient onboarding, and secure notes, forms and history. Cyph says the service is beyond HIPAA-compliant and comes certified with a BAA. EHR/EMR integrations and call recording are marked as coming soon, so teams that depend on either should not treat them as current capabilities.

Pricing

Cyph is freemium, with a free plan and paid plans from $3/mo (annual). The general paid-from price is not enough to determine which non-telehealth allowances apply, so readers should match their needs to the relevant plan before committing.

The published Telehealth team plans have distinct seat and usage structures. The $7.00 USD per month Large Team plan covers 26+ users, 1 TB encrypted cloud storage and unlimited encrypted voice/video and group voice/video. It is the clearest fit for larger groups needing high shared storage and broad calling allowances. The $9.00 USD per month Medium Team plan covers 6–25 users, 100 GB encrypted cloud storage and unlimited encrypted voice/video calls. The $10.00 USD per month Small Team plan covers 1–5 users, 100 GB storage and 15 encrypted voice/video calls; that call cap makes it less suitable for teams with frequent sessions.

Separate practitioner plans bundle unlimited patient sessions with 100 GB encrypted storage per user. Annual billing costs $18.00 USD per month for 1–9 practitioners, $16.00 USD per month for 10–49 practitioners, and $10.00 USD per month for 50+ practitioners. Month-to-month billing costs $25.00 USD per month for 1–9 practitioners, $20.00 USD per month for 10–49, and $15.00 USD per month for 50+. The lower annual rates suit teams prepared to commit to annual billing; month-to-month costs more but avoids that billing term. These practitioner tiers should not be conflated with the user-based team plans, whose storage and call allowances differ.

Platforms

Cyph supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. Its browser app requires no download, and desktop versions are offered for Windows, Mac and Linux. That range accommodates mixed-device groups without limiting the service to phones or a single desktop platform.

Who it's for

Cyph is suited to people who want messaging, encrypted calls and private storage under one roof, and healthcare practices evaluating patient video sessions alongside secure records. It is less compelling for users who only need a messenger, or for clinics whose workflow requires EHR/EMR integration or call recording now.

Pros and cons

Pros: Messaging, scheduled meetings, group video and encrypted Vault storage make Cyph useful beyond one communication format.
Pros: Cyph describes concrete protections including quantum-resistant ciphers, WebSign integrity checks and automatic impersonation protection; it also reports a Cure53 audit with no major issues found.
Pros: Telehealth combines patient sessions, onboarding and secure records, with practitioner plans offering unlimited patient sessions.
Cons: Telehealth plans use different seat counts, storage allocations and call limits, so selecting by plan name alone risks a mismatch.
Cons: The small user-based Telehealth plan allows 15 encrypted voice/video calls, while EHR/EMR integrations and call recording remain forthcoming.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, browse Secure messaging apps. Choose Olvid if you want a free plan billed forever with unlimited messages, attachments and secure group discussions. Wire is another freemium option, and its maker says the source code is fully open source and available on GitHub for verification. Pick Delta Chat if free and open-source software is the priority.

Element offers Community and Enterprise plans with custom pricing, making it an alternative for readers comparing team-oriented tiers. Session is worth considering if open-source code that can be independently audited is important; its free plan includes encrypted messaging and attachments up to 10mb. Choose Signal for free messaging and calling, bearing in mind that desktop use requires a mobile account. SimpleX Chat is a free option whose alternative client applications must publish modifications under the AGPLv3 license. Telegram may suit readers who want free cloud storage alongside groups, channels, voice and video.

Verdict

Cyph is a strong candidate for people who want messaging, calls and encrypted storage in a single privacy-focused service, and for healthcare teams whose needs match its patient-session and records features. Its chief advantage is that breadth; its chief caution is the complexity of Telehealth’s distinct plan limits, alongside integrations and recording that are not yet offered. Choose it when those capabilities align with your work, and look elsewhere if you need a simpler messenger or a clinic workflow built around integrations today.
