Overview

Chefy is a web-based hospitality costing platform for kitchens, bars and multi-venue groups. It is best for operators who want recipe and menu costs to stay in step with product prices and Square sales. Its free Core plan makes the costing workflow accessible to one venue, while additional modules and account elements add cost as operations expand.

Its central strength is linking product prices to recipes and menu items rather than leaving operators to update each calculation separately. The main constraint is that sales matching currently depends on Square, and the modular pricing can make a larger setup more expensive than the free starting point suggests.

Key features

Recipe costs that respond to price changes

Chefy Core supports standard products, nested recipes, wastage recording and approvals. When a product price changes, that update flows through linked recipes and menu items, helping keep cost and margin figures current. Yield and portion scaling, inventory tracking and menu profitability support a broader costing workflow. This is useful for venues with recipes built from prepared components; operators seeking only a simple calculator may not need that structure.

Invoices and sales matching

AI invoice processing extracts supplier prices, giving venues a way to bring invoice changes into their costing workflow. Chefy also syncs Square sales and menu items, matching sales to costed recipes. That connection can tie actual sales activity to dish costs, but the product's stated POS link today is Square, so venues using another POS should not choose Chefy for POS-based sales matching.

Oversight and floor operations

Chefy Admin provides performance analytics, contribution margin, approvals and audit logs across venues. Threshold alerts flag margins that breach targets, while automated daily reports surface insights and trends. Chefy Go adds mobile-first prep, wastage recording and stock counting for floor teams. These tools make the platform relevant beyond recipe setup, particularly for groups that need oversight across locations; the associated modules and organization administration are separately priced.

Security and support

Chefy says it uses HTTPS/TLS, encrypts data at rest, hosts data in Australia and backs it up automatically. It also describes granular user permissions and a full change audit log. Card payments are handled by Square and Stripe, and Chefy says it does not store card numbers. It does not yet hold formal certifications such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, a material consideration for buyers whose procurement requires those credentials. Support is described as local, with demos offered using a venue's menu and numbers.

Pricing

Chefy uses a freemium model, with paid pricing starting from $12/mo. Chefy Core is 0.00 USD per free, billed forever, and includes one core venue, costing and recipes, bulk product import, wastage recording, real-time costing updates and a team. It is a useful starting point for one venue, but does not include the separately priced expansion elements below.

Plan or item	Price and terms	What it adds
Additional user	4.00 USD per month, billed per user / month	Three team members are included per venue; additional seats cost extra.
Modules	12.00 USD per month, billed per module / month, starting from	Sales, Stocktake, Procurement or Chefy Go.
Organization admin	15.00 USD per month, billed per admin / month	Organization-wide oversight across venues.
Additional venue	65.00 USD per month, billed per venue / month	Each additional venue includes full Core.

The free plan's one-venue scope suits a small operation evaluating or running the core costing workflow. For multi-venue operators, the venue fee includes full Core at each additional location, but paid modules and organization admins remain separate line items; teams should account for those alongside per-user charges. Chefy is less compelling for buyers who need broad operational features at one flat price.

Platforms

Chefy is available on the web. Chefy Go is described as mobile-first for floor work, but the platform listing is web.

Who it's for

Chefy fits hospitality venues that manage recipes, ingredient costs and margins, especially those whose supplier prices change often and whose sales run through Square. It also suits multi-venue groups that need contribution-margin analytics, approvals and audit trails across locations. A venue with another POS, or one that requires SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, should weigh those constraints before choosing it.

Pros and cons

Pros: Product price changes cascade into recipes and menu items, reducing the need to maintain disconnected cost calculations.
Pros: The free Core plan includes one venue, recipes, costing, bulk product import, wastage recording, real-time updates and a team.
Pros: Invoice extraction, Square sales matching and multi-venue analytics connect costing with purchasing and operating performance.
Cons: Sales matching currently links to Square, limiting that workflow for venues on other POS systems.
Cons: Additional users, modules, admins and venues are priced separately, so a multi-location setup can accumulate charges.
Cons: Chefy does not yet hold SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certifications, which may rule it out for some procurement requirements.

Cilurzo Foodcost is also a freemium web alternative.

Verdict

Choose Chefy if you run a hospitality venue that wants recipe costs updated as supplier prices move, and especially if Square sales matching or multi-venue oversight is part of the job. The free Core plan is a credible starting point for one location, but the main reason to look elsewhere is a need for non-Square POS matching, a flat all-in price, or formal security certifications.
