Overview

FocusRetro brings feedback, voting and meeting controls into one retrospective workflow. Anonymous contributions and blind voting can help teams surface opinions before discussion, while timers, locked phases, topic grouping and moderation controls give facilitators ways to manage pace and participation. That structure is useful for guided sessions, though teams seeking only an unstructured collaborative board may find the facilitation framework more than they need.

Action items can include an owner, due date and status, then appear again at the start of the next retro. This follow-through is a practical advantage for teams that want decisions to remain visible between meetings. Guests can join from an invite link, contribute feedback, vote and access action items without an account, reducing friction for occasional participants.

Key features

Templates and facilitation

Teams can start with Went Well / To Improve / Action Items, Mad Sad Glad, Start-Stop-Continue, 4Ls or a blank board. The range covers familiar formats without locking a team into one method. Phase timers and locked phases support a facilitator-led meeting; topic grouping and moderation controls help keep contributions organized.

Follow-through and integrations

Owners, due dates and status give action items enough structure to support accountability, and resurfacing them at the next retrospective closes the loop. FocusRetro also ships Jira and Slack integrations, which may suit teams that already use those tools in their workflow.

Security and privacy

Browser traffic is encrypted with TLS, while Jira and Slack integration tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM. Team health-check responses are stored as anonymous aggregates rather than tied to identities. FocusRetro says it does not yet hold SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, a consideration for organizations that require either credential. Stripe handles payments, and card details do not pass through FocusRetro's servers.

Pricing

FocusRetro is freemium, with a free plan, paid plans from $12/mo (annual), and a 14-day trial. The named Team plan costs 15.00 USD per month, billed monthly. That makes the trial a way to assess the product before committing, while the published Team terms give teams a monthly billing option.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Starter	0.00 USD per free; billed Forever	3 personal boards per month, core retro templates, voting and reactions, phase timers, and action items
Team	15.00 USD per month; billed monthly	1 shared workspace, unlimited boards and workspace members, private and restricted boards, and board passwords
Business	Custom pricing; custom annual billing	5 workspaces, unlimited boards and workspace members, and admin controls

Starter is a useful no-cost fit for individuals or occasional personal retrospectives, but its three-board monthly cap and personal-board scope make it unsuitable as the ongoing shared workspace for a team. Team removes board and member limits within one workspace and adds access controls, making it the practical tier for regular collaboration. Business is aimed at organizations that need multiple workspaces and admin controls, with custom annual billing rather than a stated fixed price.

Platforms

FocusRetro runs on the web. That suits teams working in a browser, but it does not provide a stated desktop or mobile app platform.

Who it's for

FocusRetro is a sensible choice for agile, remote and hybrid teams that need anonymous input, managed meeting phases and a way to revisit action items. Guest access is particularly useful when contributors change from session to session. It is less compelling for a team that needs formal SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification, or for groups wanting a shared workspace at no cost.

Pros and cons

Pros: Action items have owners, due dates and status, then resurface in the next retro, supporting follow-through.
Pros: Guests can contribute, vote and view action items without accounts, making occasional participation easier.
Pros: The free Starter tier includes templates, voting, timers and action items for personal use.
Cons: Starter is capped at three personal boards per month and does not provide the shared Team workspace.
Cons: SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certification are not currently held, which may rule it out for certification-dependent buyers.
Cons: The product is web-only, so teams requiring a native app platform should look elsewhere.

Alternatives

Browse the Retrospective Software directory for more options. Choose Echometer if Linux, macOS or Windows support matters, or if its free tier's one team, 25 workspace members, unlimited retro guests and limited retro cadence suit your group. RetroStack is a fit for teams prioritizing free access across Android, iOS, macOS and web without sign-up. FreeRetrospectives is worth considering for teams that want a currently free web option with rooms, live chat, templates, exports, AI recaps, health checks and no per-user pricing.

Neatro may suit a small team that can work within its free plan's 10-member cap and wants more than 70 templates and unlimited retrospectives. QRetro is the alternative to consider when no team limit, board quota or per-seat fee—and included planning poker—are priorities. Reetro offers a free forever plan with up to three teams, nine members per team and ten active boards, so it may better fit groups whose needs fall within those caps. Retro Harbour is a straightforward option for teams seeking a free web tool with no board or participant limits and no paid tier. Retros.work may work for teams that value unlimited retrospectives and users on its free plan and can accept two answers per column, non-editable questions and limited trends and archive.

Verdict

Choose FocusRetro for a remote or hybrid agile team that wants structured facilitation, account-free guest participation and action items that return at the next retrospective. Its strongest case is the combination of session controls and practical follow-through; its clearest drawbacks are that shared workspaces start with the paid Team plan and the product lacks SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certification. If either constraint is decisive, compare the alternatives before adopting it.
