Overview

Courses ask learners to solve problems, explore visual models, and use immediate feedback to develop their reasoning. Koji, a digital tutor built into most courses, provides step-by-step guidance. That combination gives self-directed learners a way to work through ideas actively, though free users receive only a limited Koji preview.

Brilliant is a subscription learning service, not a credential program: it offers no completion certificates or degree programs. It requires an internet connection, and lessons cannot be downloaded, which rules it out for offline study and makes reliable connectivity essential.

Key features

Courses and tutoring

Free accounts can access all courses, but are limited to two lessons or practice sets per day and must complete them in sequence. That makes the free tier useful for trying subjects or keeping a modest daily routine, but restrictive for anyone who wants to study intensively or jump to a particular lesson. Premium removes the daily cap, allows learners to jump to any lesson, removes ads, and provides full Koji access. Those upgrades matter most to learners who want control over their pace or frequent tutoring.

Educator tools

Eligible K–12 teachers and their students may receive free Premium access through Brilliant for Educators, subject to application review. Teachers can sync rosters with Google Classroom and share lesson links through Google Classroom or another learning management system. Progress reports track lesson completion, time spent, course progress, and completion dates, but do not show answer-level correctness or formal grades. The program says it complies with COPPA, FERPA, and GDPR and does not sell student data or use it for marketing. Brilliant also describes organizational, technical, and administrative security safeguards, while acknowledging it cannot guarantee internet transmissions are completely secure.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and limits learners to two lessons or practice sets a day. It preserves access to all courses, but the cap and sequential progression make it better for sampling or light practice than sustained study.

Individual Premium (annual) costs 20.00 USD per year, billed as a single $20 payment, and renews annually; it can be canceled anytime. It includes unlimited access to all courses, no ads, and one subscription across devices. This is the most direct fit for an individual who wants to progress without daily limits or use full Koji access.

Family Premium (annual) costs 40.00 USD per year, billed as a single $40 payment, and renews annually; it can be canceled anytime. Six seats and unlimited course access without ads make it the option for a household sharing the service, rather than a single learner.

Group Annual has custom pricing, includes three seats, and supports groups of 3 to 50 people. Each extra seat costs $10.10/month. Eligible educators may instead apply for free Premium access through Brilliant for Educators.

Platforms

Brilliant is available on Android, iOS, and the web. Mobile apps make it accessible across phones and tablets, but neither app use nor a paid plan removes the internet requirement or enables offline lessons.

Who it's for

Brilliant is best suited to independent learners who want active practice across STEM subjects and value immediate feedback and guided reasoning. The educator program may suit eligible K–12 teachers who want to share lessons and monitor broad progress, provided reports without grades or answer-level accuracy meet their needs. Learners who need certificates, degree programs, downloadable lessons, or uninterrupted free study should look elsewhere.
