Overview

TaxDome is practice-management software for tax, bookkeeping, and accounting firms that want client service and internal work in one system. Its combination of document handling, workflow, and billing makes it a broad option for solo practitioners and larger practices, though the upfront annual seat commitment makes the cost a significant decision.

Key features

TaxDome combines a CRM and client portal with document management, tax organizers, e-signatures, secure chat, email, and client requests. Keeping these client interactions together can reduce the need to move between separate tools; Essentials includes unlimited CRM, storage, and e-signatures, but is restricted to a solo user.

Workflow automation can assign jobs, track progress, send reminders, and update clients. Deadline tracking and staff capacity planning support day-to-day coordination, while the work forecaster is still coming soon and should not be counted on as a current forecasting tool.

TaxDome's AI can tag, categorize, and rename client documents, and offers AI-powered analytics and search. Billing covers invoices, recurring invoices, billable-hour tracking, proposals, and payment collection within workflows, giving firms a way to connect payment steps to client work.

Named integrations include IRS, Companies House, DATEV, QuickBooks Online, Zapier, Calendly, Acuity, Stripe, and tax programs such as Drake, TaxAct, and Lacerte. Its Trust Center lists SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, eIDAS, PCI DSS Level 2, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act; it says data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2 and at rest with AES-256.

Pricing

All three plans are billed upfront per seat, with lower annual rates in exchange for longer commitments. Essentials costs $800 /year per seat with a 1-year commitment, $750 /year per seat with a 2-year commitment, or $700 /year per seat with a 3-year commitment. It is for solo users only and includes one seat plus unlimited CRM, document storage, and e-signatures. That makes it the focused choice for a solo practice, but not an option for adding team seats.

Pro costs $1000 /year per seat with a 1-year commitment, $950 /year per seat with a 2-year commitment, or $900 /year per seat with a 3-year commitment. It adds 120 client general-ledger connections, 60 days of team chat history, a 30-day activity feed, and monthly seats. Firms needing team access and those connection and history limits may find it a more practical tier than Essentials, but should weigh the upfront commitment against their staffing needs.

Business costs $1200 /year per seat with a 1-year commitment, $1150 /year per seat with a 2-year commitment, or $1100 /year per seat with a 3-year commitment. It includes unlimited paid seats, unlimited client general-ledger connections, a 365-day activity feed, and seasonal seats. Its longer activity history and unlimited connections suit firms with broader or seasonal staffing needs, at the highest per-seat price. TaxDome has no free plan.

Average support response times are 24 hours for Essentials, 12 hours for Pro, and 6 hours for Business. Business also includes Client Care for client questions about the platform. The fully branded mobile app is a paid add-on, so firms should factor that separately if brand customization on mobile matters.

Platforms

TaxDome offers web access, a dedicated desktop application, and firm and client apps for iOS and Android. The platform supports macOS and Windows as well as iOS and Android.

Who it's for

Tax preparers, bookkeepers, and accountants can use TaxDome to bring client management, workflow, documents, and billing together. Essentials is limited to solo practices; Pro and Business address team use, while Business's unlimited paid seats and seasonal seats are more relevant to firms with changing or multi-office staffing. Firms that only need a narrower tool, or are unwilling to commit to annual upfront per-seat pricing, should compare other options.

Pros and cons

Broad client-service toolkit: CRM, portal, document exchange, e-signatures, chat, email, and requests sit alongside workflow and billing.
Automation and AI: Routine job assignment, reminders, and client updates can be automated, while AI handles document labeling and supports search and analytics.
Tiered team capacity: Pro offers monthly seats and Business adds unlimited paid and seasonal seats, with longer activity history at the top tier.
Upfront commitment: Each plan is billed per seat upfront, and the lowest rates require two- or three-year commitments.
Some capabilities cost extra or are pending: The fully branded mobile app is a paid add-on, and the work forecaster is not yet available.

Alternatives

Accounting Practice Management Software is a useful starting point for comparing options across the category. Choose Canopy if a free plan matters or if you want CRM, document management, e-signatures, a client portal, secure messaging, and automated workflows in a freemium product. CCH Axcess Practice is another paid practice-management option with a quote-based plan. Consider IRIS Practice Engine if you are looking for a paid web- or API-based alternative. Practice CS may suit firms that want scalable features implemented as needed and are willing to contact sales for pricing.

Task Session is a lower-cost task-focused alternative with a free plan and a Starter plan at 59.00 USD per year, though it renews at $99/year. FYI is worth considering for firms seeking practice-management sync, email filing, templates, and signatures; its Intermediate plan is 30.00 AUD per month per user, excluding GST, with a five-user minimum. Nomi may be a better fit for self-assessment and HMRC submission workflows, with a Self Assessments plan at 4.00 GBP per month +VAT. Xero Practice Manager is an alternative for Silver, Gold, or Platinum partners seeking a free plan, and it also offers a 1-user plan at 65.00 NZD per month, excluding GST.

Verdict

TaxDome is a strong choice for accounting practices that want one system for client interactions, repeatable workflows, documents, and billing, with plans that can accommodate solo users through larger teams. Its main trade-off is the upfront annual cost per seat, especially when lower rates require longer commitments; firms that need a free entry point or only selected practice tools should look elsewhere.
