Overview

Sanity is a web platform for teams managing structured content across websites, apps, and other digital experiences. It is a strong fit when developers and editors need shared content, flexible access roles, and automation; teams needing private datasets on the free plan should look elsewhere or budget for Growth.

Key features

Sanity supports both GraphQL and GROQ, with content localization, previews, asset transformations, and webhooks. That mix suits teams delivering content to different markets and application surfaces, though GROQ-powered webhooks and request quotas still shape how far smaller plans can stretch. Real-time editing and multiplayer presence work across all plans, and revisions are stored for every document, helping teams coordinate changes and recover earlier versions.

Functions automate content operations and can trigger when datasets change, making Sanity useful for workflows beyond publishing. Its MCP Server connects with Cursor, Claude Code, v0, and more. Sanity also supports web, mobile, content applications, and customer-facing or internal agents. SOC 2, GDPR, and CCPA compliance are included across plans; Enterprise adds SAML single sign-on, dedicated support, an uptime SLA, custom roles, and custom usage quotas.

Viewer-role users do not consume seats, but other user types do. That distinction can help larger editorial groups control seat use, while teams needing more than the plan’s seat allowance must move up a tier. Community support is included on Free, Growth, and Enterprise.

Pricing

Sanity is freemium, with paid plans from $15/user/mo. Prices below are per month.

Free — $0.00 USD per free, billed $0 forever: Includes 20 user seats, 2 permission roles, 2 public datasets, 10k documents, 2 GROQ-powered webhooks, and 1M API CDN requests per month. Unlimited content types and locales make it a generous way to explore or ship smaller projects, but the public-only datasets rule it out for content that must remain private.
Growth — $15.00 USD per month: Includes 50 user seats, 5 permission roles, 2 datasets, 25k documents, 4 GROQ-powered webhooks, and 1M API CDN requests per month. It suits teams scaling collaboration or needing datasets beyond the Free plan’s public-only restriction; the request allowance remains the same, so higher API demand may be a constraint. Growth can be tried for free.
Enterprise — custom pricing: Adds custom roles and access control, SAML single sign-on, dedicated support, an uptime SLA, and custom usage quotas. It is the better fit for organizations needing enterprise access controls or a service commitment, but requires a custom-priced plan.

Platforms

Sanity is a web platform that can power web and mobile products, content applications, and customer-facing or internal agents. Its API supports GraphQL and GROQ.

Who it's for

Sanity fits teams that want one collaborative content platform serving multiple experiences, with localization, previews, role permissions, and automation in the same system. Its generous Free seat allowance is useful for experimentation and smaller projects, while Growth targets teams with increasing collaboration needs. It is less suitable when private datasets are required at no cost or when a team needs usage quotas beyond the fixed Free and Growth limits.

Pros and cons

Pro: Free includes 20 seats, unlimited content types and locales, and 10k documents, making it practical for sizeable experiments and smaller launches.
Pro: Real-time collaboration, document revisions, localization, previews, and asset transformations support editorial work across markets and channels.
Pro: Functions and MCP integrations extend Sanity into automated workflows and developer tools, not just content delivery.
Con: Free datasets are public-only, a material restriction for projects with private content.
Con: Free and Growth both cap API CDN requests at 1M per month, and Growth provides only 2 datasets despite its higher seat and document limits.
Con: SAML SSO, dedicated support, and an uptime SLA require Enterprise custom pricing.

Verdict

Choose Sanity if your team needs collaborative, localized content that can serve multiple kinds of applications, and you value flexible APIs and automation. Its free tier is unusually workable for experiments, but public-only datasets are a decisive drawback for private projects; Growth is the sensible step up, while enterprise access controls and support require custom pricing.
