What WhatFPS Benchmark is

WhatFPS Benchmark is a free benchmark for Windows gaming PCs that measures GPU, CPU, RAM and disk performance. Its graphics tests run DX11, DX12, DX12 Ultimate and Vulkan. GPU checks include three 3D scenes and a stress test covering compute, memory bandwidth, textures and fill rate. CPU tests cover floating point, integer, SIMD/AVX, single-thread performance, cache latency and a DX11 draw-call test. RAM tests measure read, write and triad bandwidth plus DRAM latency; disk tests measure sequential reads, 4K random IOPS and p99 latency. Results appear on a public leaderboard with percentiles for comparing a system against other measured systems. Runs are signed in the app and checked by the server for plausible values and replay attacks; unverified results are excluded. The maker says the app collects hardware information and test-time clocks and temperatures, but not files, browsing history or other processes. In-game FPS tracking is optional. Installation is only through the Microsoft Store. The maker says scores and methodology may change during beta.

Who it suits

It suits Windows gaming-PC owners who want to measure and compare hardware performance. Users should check the AVX2 and graphics-memory limitations before running it.

What it does well

  • Measures GPU, CPU, RAM and disk
  • Tests DX11, DX12, DX12 Ultimate and Vulkan
  • Public leaderboard includes percentiles
  • In-game FPS tracking is optional

What to know first

  • Windows 10/11 only; no Mac or Linux support
  • Processors without AVX2 cannot run it
  • Some weaker systems may freeze during 4K scenes
  • Microsoft Store is the only installation route
