Tungsten Replicator

What Tungsten Replicator is
Tungsten Replicator moves database changes from source systems to transactional databases, NoSQL platforms and data warehouses. It supports change data capture, multi-way replication and cross-region replication, with statement-based and row-based modes. Each transaction receives a unique global transaction ID. Teams can set up parallel replication and topologies such as fan-in, star and active/active.
Filters can select, remove, modify or augment data according to schema, table, column, field value or operation type. Documented sources include MySQL, Amazon RDS MySQL, Amazon Aurora, Google Cloud SQL and Microsoft Azure. Destinations include MySQL variants, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Amazon Redshift, HPE Vertica, Hadoop, MongoDB, Apache Kafka and Amazon S3.
The product runs on supported Linux distributions and has API and self-hosted platform listings. Installation is documented using RPM or compressed tarball packages; Docker deployment is available from version 8.0.4. Security from version 7.0.0 onward includes SSL/TLS, authentication, certificates and file permissions. Tungsten Replicator is paid, with pricing on request. Continuent was founded in 2004 and is headquartered in Moraga, California.
Who it suits
Tungsten Replicator suits organizations that need to move changes among supported databases, cloud sources, and analytics or messaging destinations. Its filtering and multi-way topologies are relevant to teams managing heterogeneous replication flows.
What it does well
- Supports statement-based and row-based replication.
- Offers parallel, fan-in, star and active/active topologies.
- Filters can transform data using several criteria.
- Supports cross-region and multi-way replication.
- Security includes SSL/TLS, authentication and certificates.
- Offers RPM, tarball and Docker deployment options.
What to know first
- Paid product with pricing available on request.
- Windows and macOS are not supported for direct installation.
- Docker setup is limited to cluster-extractor topology.
- DDL replication is limited to MySQL-to-MySQL deployments.
Limits
The Docker deployment currently supports only a cluster-extractor topology and requires an operational Tungsten Cluster as its source. DDL replication is limited to MySQL-to-MySQL deployments; heterogeneous deployments require row-based binary logging.

Getting started
- Open the Tungsten Replicator documentation website.
- Choose a supported Linux distribution for direct installation.
- Install using an RPM or compressed tarball package.
- For Docker deployment, use version 8.0.4 or later and an operational Tungsten Cluster source.
- Configure database SSL as well when encrypted database connections are required.
Verdict
Choose Tungsten Replicator when your data flows need multi-way replication, filtering or a mix of supported source and target systems. Look elsewhere if you require direct installation on Windows or macOS, or need DDL replication across heterogeneous deployments.
Questions
How much does Tungsten Replicator cost?
It is a paid product, with pricing available on request. Paid support contracts are also offered.
Which systems can it replicate between?
