PTE Academic Smart Prep

PTE Academic Smart Prep is Pearson’s web preparation service for candidates taking PTE Academic for international study, migration or work. It is best for learners who want official practice tied to a study plan and measurable skill progress. The choice is strongest when you value Pearson’s scoring feedback and can schedule a limited number of full test attempts carefully.

Overview

Smart Prep runs on the web through a myPTE account, whether or not you have booked an exam. Its free and paid resources cover several PTE Academic preparation needs, from introductory guidance to repeated question practice and scored mock tests. Pearson also supplies a customer-support portal and preparation help resources.

The service is specifically aimed at PTE Academic rather than general language study. That focus suits applicants who already know which exam they are taking, while people comparing several English tests may prefer a broader preparation platform.

Key features

A step-by-step study plan gives preparation a sequence instead of leaving you to assemble exercises yourself. Free Smart Prep content includes guided practice tests, online courses and test tips, making it practical to begin before committing money.

Official PTE Academic AI Practice supplies 15 full-length mock tests, 20 sectional tests and more than 1,000 official questions. It returns instant scoring and feedback against official PTE scoring traits and includes AI Tutor support. Individual questions may be repeated during access, but every full mock and sectional test is available only once. The reusable question bank is therefore suited to drilling weak areas; the single-use scored tests are better saved for deliberate checkpoints that resemble your intended exam readiness.

A progress dashboard records scores by skill and movement across practice sessions. Used consistently, that view can show whether work is improving a particular area and help direct the next study block. It does not remove the need to interpret results and change your routine yourself.

Pearson says AI-generated data, activity and usage information, plus location, application and systems-log data, may be handled as personal-data categories. Depending on your country, privacy rights may include access, correction, objection or restriction, deletion, data transfer, marketing opt-out and withdrawal of consent.

Pricing

The free-access tier costs nothing with no payment required to start. It includes two diagnostic tests, sample Reading and Listening questions, and sample AI scoring and feedback. This is enough to sample the workflow, but not the full mock-test library.

One-time AI Practice access is available for 29.99 USD for seven days, 59.99 USD for one month, or 89.99 USD for three months. None is a subscription. Each includes 15 full mock tests, 20 sectional tests, more than 1,000 official practice questions, AI scoring, feedback and tutor support. The seven-day option fits an intensive final review; the one- and three-month options give more time to spread attempts across a longer study plan without recurring billing.

Monthly Smart Prep plans package scored practice differently. Scored Practice Test costs $35.99 a month for one scored practice test. Essential is $59.99 a month for two scored tests and over 340 practice questions. Premium costs $79.99 a month for three scored tests and over 340 questions. Premium Plus is $109.99 a month for three scored tests, over 340 questions and a B1 or B2 self-study course. Essential suits candidates needing a modest monthly test quota; Premium is for those who will use three scored rehearsals. Premium Plus is the choice when the additional self-study course matters. The cheaper tiers give up scored-test capacity and, compared with Premium Plus, the course.

Platforms

Smart Prep is web-based and accessed through myPTE. Pearson’s former PTE Academic Practice App is no longer available; the service directs learners to Official PTE Academic AI Practice instead. That makes a browser the required access route rather than a dedicated mobile application.

Who it's for

Choose Smart Prep if you are preparing specifically for PTE Academic and want official questions, scoring-trait feedback, a guided route and skill-level tracking in one account. It is particularly suitable for candidates who can work to a schedule and reserve single-use mocks for meaningful milestones. It is less suitable if you need unlimited repeat mock exams, a native mobile app, or preparation for a different admissions test.

Pros and cons

• Pros: Official PTE content includes 15 full mocks, 20 sectional tests and over 1,000 questions.
• Pros: Instant scoring, trait-aligned feedback and AI Tutor support make practice results more actionable than unanswered exercises.
• Pros: Free guided materials and a no-payment diagnostic tier let you assess the format before buying.
• Pros: The dashboard organizes progress by skill across sessions.
• Cons: Every full-length and sectional test can be taken only once, limiting repeat exam rehearsal.
• Cons: Access is web-only through myPTE, with no current dedicated practice app.
• Cons: Paid choices split between monthly plans and one-time access periods, so selecting the wrong term can leave unused time or too little test capacity.

Verdict

PTE Academic Smart Prep is a strong fit for PTE candidates who want Pearson’s own questions, scoring feedback and structured progress monitoring, with a free starting point and flexible one-time access. Choose it when official alignment matters most. Look elsewhere if single-use mock and sectional tests, web-only access or PTE-only scope do not match how you study.
