Prow

What Prow is
Prow is an open-source CI/CD system that runs jobs in Kubernetes and automates GitHub workflows. Jobs can begin from GitHub events, Pub/Sub messages, schedules, or Tide retesting requests. Configurable bot commands, policy enforcement, and automated pull request merging support repository workflows, while Deck displays running and recently completed jobs. Hook routes GitHub webhook events to internal plugins and can forward them to configured external plugins; it also validates incoming webhooks with configured HMAC credentials. The optional Gangway component exposes gRPC endpoints for creating jobs and retrieving executions. Prow integrates with GitHub and can also work with Gerrit, although Tide and Hook do not work with Gerrit. It is designed for multi-organization use across dozens of repositories, and its operational tools include JSON structured logs and Prometheus metrics. Prow runs in Kubernetes clusters, uses YAML pipeline configuration, and supports self-hosted runners. The project documents syncing secrets from GCP, Azure, and AWS into Kubernetes with Kubernetes External Secrets. It is free to self-deploy; no hosted option is listed.
Who it suits
Prow suits teams that can operate Kubernetes and want to automate GitHub jobs across multiple organizations and repositories. Its self-hosted deployment and YAML configuration are relevant to teams managing their own CI/CD environment.
What it does well

Verdict
Prow offers job automation and pull request workflows for Kubernetes-based deployments. Consider its self-hosted operating model and the Gerrit limitations when assessing fit.
