What Pitivi is
Pitivi is a free, open-source video editor for Linux, available as a desktop application. Its timeline supports trimming, splitting, snapping, grouping clips, and ripple or roll editing, with unlimited video and audio track layers. The effects collection includes more than 70 transitions and over a hundred video and audio effects, with keyframe animation for effect properties. Audio tools provide waveforms, volume curves, mixing across audio layers, and keyframable audio effects. Pitivi accepts formats supported by GStreamer and renders containers and codecs supplied through GStreamer plugins. It integrates best with GNOME while working with Linux desktop environments generally. Automatic backups can support restoration after a crash or power loss.
