KakaoCloud Container Registry is a managed cloud repository for storing and managing Docker container images. It supports standard Docker images and Docker CLI authentication, push, and pull workflows, and connects with KakaoCloud Kubernetes Engine to manage and deploy images. IAM roles set repository permissions: members can push and pull, while viewers can pull only. Trivy can scan images for CVE-based vulnerabilities daily or automatically after a push. Users can review image and tag history and recover earlier versions or deleted tags. Repositories may be public, allowing KakaoCloud-authenticated users who know the URI to pull without separate repository authentication. Default quotas are 1,000 repositories per project, 10,000 images per repository, and 1,000 tags per image; increases can be requested. Garbage collection removes layer data for manifests not referenced by an image. The service supports OCI artifacts, immutable tags, retention policies, lifecycle rules, and S3 compatibility. Listed included storage is 1 GB, and the maximum object size is 50 GB. The free allowance includes 1 GiB of registry storage and 30 GiB of outbound traffic; usage above those levels is billed, with VAT excluded.

Who it is for

It suits teams managing Docker images for KakaoCloud Kubernetes Engine or other container workflows. It may also fit teams that need image scanning, access controls, and tag history.

What is good

  • Works with standard Docker CLI workflows.
  • Trivy scans can run daily or after pushes.
  • Image and tag history supports recovery of prior versions.
  • Supports immutable tags and retention policies.
  • Includes 1 GB of storage and 30 GiB outbound traffic.

What to know first

  • Storage above 1 GiB is billed at 0.14 won per GiB/hour.
  • Outbound traffic above 30 GiB is billed.
  • Public pulls still require KakaoCloud authentication and the repository URI.

Verdict

The registry combines Docker image storage, access controls, scanning, and recovery features with Kubernetes Engine integration. Costs apply beyond the listed free storage and outbound-traffic allowances.
