JASP is free desktop software for statistical analysis on Linux, macOS, and Windows. Its graphical interface is designed for analysis without programming, and it provides standard procedures in both frequentist and Bayesian forms. Modules cover descriptives, t-tests, ANOVA, regression, meta-analysis, machine learning, structural equation modeling, survival, and time series. The spreadsheet-style workspace uses drag-and-drop controls, with results updating as options change. JASP can produce APA-formatted output, including tables for a word processor, and lets users annotate results. It is integrated with the Open Science Framework and can run without an internet connection. Supported imports include CSV, TSV, text, SPSS, SAS, Excel, Stata, and R formats, among others. The software is licensed under GNU Affero GPL v3; its download page says it will always be free. It requires a 64-bit operating system, around 4 GB of free disk space, and at least 4 GB RAM. Eight GB is recommended, with 16 GB or more suggested for large datasets. Android, iOS, and iPadOS are not supported.

Who it is for

JASP suits statistical practitioners and learners who want a graphical workflow rather than programming. It is also suitable for users needing frequentist or Bayesian procedures and APA-formatted output on a desktop computer.

What is good

  • Offers standard frequentist and Bayesian analyses.
  • Results update as analysis options change.
  • Supports APA-formatted output and annotations.
  • Runs offline and integrates with the Open Science Framework.
  • Imports formats including SPSS, Excel, Stata, and R.

What to know first

  • Requires a 64-bit operating system.
  • Needs at least 4 GB RAM and about 4 GB disk space.
  • Android, iOS, and iPadOS are not supported.

Verdict

JASP provides a broad range of statistical procedures through a no-programming desktop interface, with free use and offline operation. Check its memory and disk requirements, and note that it is not available for mobile devices.
