What IBM Cloud VPN for VPC is

IBM Cloud VPN for VPC creates encrypted IPsec tunnels between an IBM Cloud VPC and private networks such as on-premises environments. Site-to-site connections support policy-based and route-based modes, including dynamic routing with BGP. A client VPN lets individual users reach VPC resources through standard OpenVPN clients. Gateways use two VPN devices for appliance-level redundancy; policy-based connections support active-standby, while static route-based connections support active-active configurations. Administrators can select predefined or custom IKE and IPsec proposals, use multiple ciphers per connection, and prioritize algorithms. Site-to-site authentication uses pre-shared keys only, not certificate-based IKE authentication. The service works with IBM Cloud IAM and Secrets Manager, while dynamic route-based connections require Transit Gateway. A dashboard shows tunnel status and allows connections to be suspended or restarted. Access is available through web console, CLI, API, macOS, Windows, RHEL, and Ubuntu. Audit logs and advanced administration are listed.
