Arelle alternatives

Arelle is a free, open-source platform for validating and processing XBRL across desktop, command-line, API, Docker, and web-service interfaces. It supports standards such as XBRL 2.1, Inline XBRL, xBRL-JSON, and xBRL-CSV, plus filing rules for several national programs. Its plugin architecture can support custom validation and processing, and it runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and self-hosted deployments. It does not submit filings to regulators, however, and its built-in web server has no authentication or authorization. Python package and source installations also require plugins to be added and configured separately.

The alternatives below cover work that can extend beyond XBRL validation: regulatory data pipelines, reconciliation, Excel-based report creation, ESEF tagging, and broader reporting workflows. Some focus on particular filing regimes or report formats; others add data collection, approval controls, or managed services. Compare the outputs, jurisdictions, deployment options, integrations, and workflow requirements you need. Arelle costs nothing, while several alternatives use pricing on request, so weigh packaged reporting tools against its open-source flexibility and free access.
