5 Alarm Music
What 5 Alarm Music is
5 Alarm Music is an independent production music library for film, television, radio, and commercials. Its Lift Music Factual collection targets documentary productions with underscore beds, world instruments, and moody soundscapes. Documentary filmmakers and editors can listen through a public search page and browse selections by moods such as Dramatic, Quirky, and Playful, or by subjects including Science and Technology, Life Stories, and The Natural World. The launch description listed hundreds of tracks by more than 100 composers. 5 Alarm Music owned the copyrights to the Lift Music Factual collection and could license tracks to documentary filmmakers. At launch, the catalog was still expanding, with additional categories being commissioned and users invited to suggest new ones. The company also operates the independent Rescue Records label, described at the time as having more than 275 artists. The service is web-based and uses a paid model with pricing available on request. A 2013 company announcement listed the studio at 35 W. Dayton St., Pasadena, California.
