Yes. Hall-effect joystick modules can replace standard sticks in supported Xbox One and Xbox Series controllers, but the job is an internal soldering repair—not a cap swap. The replacement must match the controller’s exact model and revision, and the controller may need recalibration afterward.
What a Hall-effect stick replacement involves
The original joystick module is soldered to the controller’s circuit board. Replacing it means opening the controller, desoldering and removing the old module, clearing the board’s through-holes, and soldering in a compatible replacement. ConsoleMods’ Xbox One / Series repair guide describes this process; iFixit rates its Series X/S joystick replacement as difficult and also requires soldering.
Hall-effect sensing uses magnets without contact between the sensing parts, unlike a potentiometer’s wiper rubbing against a resistive track. That can reduce wear in the sensing mechanism, but it does not make the entire physical stick assembly immune to wear or failure. No lifespan or drift-prevention guarantee follows from the sensor type alone.
Check compatibility before buying
“Xbox controller” is not a precise enough compatibility check. Xbox One, Series X/S, and Elite controllers can differ, and a part advertised for one generation or Elite model should not be assumed to fit another. The ConsoleMods guide covers Xbox One / Series controllers, but it does not provide a complete board-revision compatibility chart. Match the part to the exact controller model and revision, and confirm fit with the seller or manufacturer before ordering.

Compare the part listing against these details:
- Exact controller model and, where relevant, board revision.
- Whether the part is a complete joystick module or only a potentiometer assembly.
- Sensor technology: Hall effect, TMR, or conventional potentiometer.
- Whether stick caps or other components are included.
- Whether calibration is supported for that controller and replacement.

The TMR kit’s model exclusions apply to that specific product and its calibration requirements; they do not prove that every Hall-effect installation on those controllers is impossible. Tools and skill required
ConsoleMods lists a hot-air station with a desoldering pump or a desoldering iron, a soldering iron, Kapton tape, isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs, and a USB cable for connecting to a PC. Its procedure also involves protecting nearby components from heat, removing the old module, clearing the solder holes, cleaning the area, and installing and soldering the replacement.

This is board-level repair. If you have not desoldered multi-pin components before, the risk is not limited to damaging the stick: excess heat or force can damage the board or nearby parts. Follow instructions for the exact controller and module, and consider a repair technician if you lack suitable tools or soldering experience.
Recalibrate and check the controller
After replacement, recalibration may be needed for the stick to report inputs properly. For Series X/S repairs, iFixit points to the Xbox console or Xbox Accessories software on PC and its recalibration option. The ConsoleMods guide describes connecting by USB, updating Xbox Accessories if an update is offered, calibrating each stick, and checking circularity and deadzones. Follow the instructions for your particular replacement; the calibration path and support can depend on the controller and module.

- Connect the controller by USB to the console or PC, as appropriate for the supported calibration method.
- Open the calibration option for the controller in the Xbox console settings or Xbox Accessories on PC, following the replacement’s instructions.
- Calibrate the affected stick, then check its movement, circularity, and deadzone behavior.
- If calibration produces unusual inputs, repeat calibration for the affected stick. ConsoleMods notes that a failed calibration can cause odd behavior or detection issues.
For the listed GuliKit TMR kit, iFixit advises updating controller firmware before calibration. That is a product-specific instruction, not a universal requirement for every Hall-effect module.

It can be a suitable repair if you have the right module for the exact controller, can perform careful desoldering and soldering, and have a supported calibration route. If the controller is still covered by a warranty or you do not have board-repair experience, weigh that before opening it. A standard potentiometer replacement can restore a Series X/S controller without changing sensor technology; a Hall-effect or TMR module is a different replacement choice with its own compatibility and calibration checks.

For Series X/S owners comparing repair paths, iFixit’s joystick replacement guide documents a soldered standard replacement and recalibration. Its part is not a Hall-effect module, so do not mistake an ordinary replacement assembly for a sensor upgrade.
