OpenScout is a VEX robotics tournament app, not a general directory of neighborhood activities. For local VEX competitions, start with the event and team information source OpenScout names: events.vex.com. For concerts, ticketed activities, community meetups, or social events, services such as Eventbrite, Meetup, Facebook Events, AllEvents, and Bandsintown may help—but none is established as a replacement for OpenScout’s VEX-specific tools.
First, decide what “local events” means
OpenScout’s App Store listing describes an independent app for following VEX robotics teams and tournaments. It says the app uses public event and team information from events.vex.com and advertises cross-program VEX search, live standings and results, match scouting notes, picklists, and tournament mode. The listing also says OpenScout is not affiliated with or endorsed by VEX Robotics or Innovation First International.
That makes the right alternative depend on what you want to find:
- VEX competitions: Look for VEX event and team information, then verify that any app you choose provides the specific live results, team-following, or scouting features you need.
- Everyday local activities: Choose a general event service based on whether you need ticket listings, recurring interest groups, social event discovery, or concert information.
The available information does not establish that general-purpose event services cover VEX tournaments or reproduce OpenScout’s team, live-result, scouting-note, picklist, or tournament-mode features.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Best starting point for local VEX competitions
events.vex.com
OpenScout explicitly names events.vex.com as its source for public VEX event and team information. That makes it the strongest starting point supported here for VEX-specific discovery. The available information does not establish the site’s full current feature set or whether its mobile experience matches OpenScout’s, so check whether it supports the event-following and in-tournament tasks you have in mind.
If you are comparing another VEX-focused app or service, check its current features directly. In particular, confirm whether it supports team following, live event standings and results, scouting notes, picklists, or tournament navigation before treating it as an OpenScout substitute.

General-purpose alternatives for other local events
| Service | Best fit | What the available information supports | VEX-specific replacement? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eventbrite | Broad event discovery and ticketed activities | Its official discovery page says published event pages become searchable on its marketplace and describes recommendations, search visibility, and organizer analytics. | Not established; the available information does not confirm VEX tournament coverage. |
| Meetup | Recurring interest groups and community meetups | The comparison information identifies recurring groups and communities as its strength. | Not established. |
| Facebook Events | Finding and creating events through Facebook | Meta said in a 3 May 2023 update that people can create and find events at facebook.com/events. | Not established. |
| AllEvents | City-wide event browsing | Its App Store description promotes city-wide event search, recommendations, event details, and ticket information. | Not established. |
| Bandsintown | Concert and live-music discovery | The comparison information describes it as a live-music specialist. | Not established. |
Eventbrite: searchable listings and ticketed activities
Eventbrite is a reasonable place to look for published events and ticketed activities. Its official discovery information describes marketplace search and recommendations, but the available evidence does not show that it lists VEX tournaments comprehensively.
Meetup: recurring groups
Meetup is the more natural fit when you are looking for an ongoing group organized around a shared interest rather than a one-off event. It is not documented here as a VEX standings or scouting tool.

Facebook Events: use the Facebook feature, not an old standalone app
Meta’s 2023 update says Facebook event creation and discovery remain available at facebook.com/events. The standalone Facebook Events app transitioned into Facebook Local in 2017, and Facebook Local was deprecated in early 2021, according to Meta. Do not confuse those discontinued standalone apps with Facebook’s events feature.
Meta’s 2016 announcement said, “Every day, more than 100 million people use Facebook events to discover things they can do with their friends.” That is a historical figure published on 7 October 2016, not a current usage statistic or a measure of local-event coverage.

AllEvents: city-wide browsing
AllEvents’ App Store description promotes city-wide event search, recommendations, event details, and ticket information. That makes it a broad discovery option, not a documented VEX-specific alternative.
Bandsintown: concerts
Bandsintown is relevant when “local events” means live music. Its specialist focus does not make it a general event directory or a VEX tracker.

How to choose without losing the features you need
- Identify the event type. For a VEX tournament, begin with the event and team information source OpenScout names. For ordinary activities, decide whether you need ticketing, recurring groups, social discovery, or concerts.
- Check the task, not just the listing. Finding an event is different from following a team, viewing live results, recording scouting notes, or navigating a tournament. Verify each feature in the service you plan to use.
- Use more than one service when necessary. General discovery services have different strengths, and the available comparison information does not identify one service that covers every event category.
The available evidence does not establish regional completeness for any service’s listings, or feature parity between OpenScout and another VEX-focused product. Treat those as matters to verify for your area and needs rather than assuming coverage or capabilities.
