Start with your source of truth: GitHub or GitLab for code, Linear or Jira for issues, PagerDuty for operational alerts, and Asana for cross-functional project work. Avoid installing overlapping apps unless they serve distinct workflows; duplicate alerts can add noise rather than save time.
How to choose Slack apps for a development team
A Slack app connects an external service to a workspace; it adds features or automates tasks in Slack rather than replacing the connected service. Slack recommends connecting tools a team already uses, so choose by workflow rather than by app count. Slack’s integration guidance also notes that some connected services require separate subscriptions and app limits depend on the Slack plan.
- Source of truth: use the code-hosting and issue-tracking systems where work is actually managed.
- Workflow coverage: decide whether you need notifications alone, or also issue actions, review reminders, or project-channel automation.
- Audience: distinguish engineering-only workflows from work that spans product, design, or operations.
- Noise and access: check alert volume, channel destinations, permissions, and who can install or approve the integration.
Six Slack apps to consider
1. GitHub: repository and pull-request collaboration
For teams whose repositories are on GitHub, the Slack integration brings repository activity and issue and pull-request collaboration into workspace channels. Documented capabilities include slash commands, threaded notifications, link previews, issue and pull-request actions, and review reminders. This can keep code discussions near related team conversations without making Slack the place where repository work is ultimately managed. See GitHub’s Slack integration documentation.
GitHub also documents starting Copilot cloud agent sessions from Slack. Copilot in Slack is a public preview and may change, so treat it as an evolving capability rather than a settled part of the integration.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Linear: issue tracking and project-channel automation
Linear is a fit when it is already the team’s issue and project-tracking system. Its documented Slack features include project and personal notifications, project-channel automation, rich issue links and issue actions, and issue creation with the /linear command. Slack issue creation requires a Linear account; Slack guests cannot install or approve apps. Review Linear’s Slack integration documentation before deciding which channels and notifications to connect.
3. Jira: project and issue management
Slack lists Jira among its project-management integrations. That makes it a candidate for teams already using Jira as their system of record. The available Slack listing establishes its category, but not specific Jira actions or notification behavior, so check the current Marketplace listing and your workspace’s needs before relying on a particular workflow. Slack’s integrations directory is the starting point.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
4. GitLab: developer-tool integration for GitLab teams
Slack lists GitLab in its developer-tools category. Consider it when your team’s code and development work already live in GitLab, rather than installing GitHub and GitLab integrations simply because both are available. The category listing does not establish feature-by-feature parity with GitHub; confirm the capabilities relevant to your workflow in the current listing at Slack’s integrations directory.
5. PagerDuty: operational alerts and incident conversations
PagerDuty is relevant when developer productivity includes receiving and discussing operational alerts. Slack identifies it as a developer tool and gives the example of routing a server-down alert into an operations channel. That supports using Slack as a place to surface an operational signal; verify the specific alert and response actions available for your PagerDuty setup in the current integration listing. See Slack’s integrations directory and Slack’s guidance on connecting tools.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
6. Asana: cross-functional project coordination
Asana is a project-management option when engineering work crosses product, design, or operations. Slack lists it as a project-management integration, which supports considering it for cross-functional coordination rather than treating it as a developer-specific tool. Check the current listing for the exact features you need: Slack’s integrations directory.
Choose one integration per workflow, not every app on the list
GitHub and GitLab can overlap as developer platforms; Linear and Jira can overlap as issue-tracking choices. Pick the integration that serves the system your team already uses, then add another only if it covers a separate workflow or audience. AWS Chatbot is another developer integration Slack lists, but the available category information does not establish its workflow details here.

Before installation, decide which channels should receive updates and who needs access. This is especially useful for operational alerts: an integration that sends too many notifications to broad channels can make important messages harder to find. Treat channel and volume decisions as workspace configuration questions, not as comparative product-performance claims.
