Choose Livepush if you prefer a hosted workflow for scheduling prerecorded video and configuring YouTube as a destination. Neither option guarantees uninterrupted uptime, and there is no universally cheaper choice: a VPS’s cost depends on its provider and requirements, while Livepush’s plan limits and prices can change. If you want a cloud service that loops uploaded videos without you operating a VPS, StreamNeo is another option to consider.
How the two approaches differ
| Decision | FFmpeg on a VPS | Livepush |
|---|---|---|
| Where the loop runs | FFmpeg reads a media file on your VPS and can repeat it indefinitely with -stream_loop -1, according to the FFmpeg documentation. |
Livepush offers a hosted 24/7 schedule channel that queues videos and loops them. |
| Who operates the stream process | You maintain the VPS, FFmpeg command, process supervision, network path, and restart and recovery behavior. | Livepush operates its hosted workflow; you configure the channel and YouTube destination and select a plan that fits. |
| Cost basis | You pay for a VPS. No specific VPS price is established here; cost depends on provider, region, and resource and network needs. | Livepush Help Center currently lists its Creators plan at $39 monthly or $32.50 per month with annual billing for 24/7 social streaming. Verify current pricing and plan limits before subscribing. |
| Multiple destinations | Possible with separate outputs or a relay architecture, but a recommended multi-output FFmpeg setup is not established here. | Livepush documents forwarding to configured destinations; destination limits depend on the plan. |
| Encoding control | You configure FFmpeg’s output and should validate that the input streams and target container are compatible. | Livepush provides the hosted workflow and YouTube destination. Check the current product’s output options and account setup. |
| YouTube replay | YouTube’s archive policy applies. | The same YouTube archive policy applies to streams sent through Livepush. |
What FFmpeg on a VPS involves
FFmpeg can loop media and write to a network output URL, but that capability is not a managed streaming service. The VPS must stay available, the FFmpeg process must keep running, and you need a way to notice and address failures. A server restart, process exit, network interruption, or YouTube disconnect can interrupt the live stream.
Before starting
- Choose a VPS region and plan with sufficient network capacity for your stream and expected egress. No provider or price is established here, so compare the provider’s bandwidth, egress charges, CPU resources if encoding, support, and restart or monitoring options.
- Have a video file you are permitted to stream. Check its codecs, timestamps, and container before deciding whether to copy its streams or re-encode them. Stream copying is not suitable for every input and target container.
- In YouTube Studio, create or configure the live stream and obtain its stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it in a command, screenshot, or log.
- Decide whether the live output should preserve the source encoding or be encoded to meet YouTube’s ingest settings. Test the exact file and output before relying on a long-running stream.
Loop and publish
FFmpeg’s documented infinite-loop option is -stream_loop -1. A command’s complete input, codec, container, and output options must match the actual media file and the YouTube ingest configuration; there is no universally safe command for unknown source files. In particular, do not assume stream-copy compatibility without checking the input and output requirements.
- Install FFmpeg on the VPS and place the media file where the service account running FFmpeg can read it.
- Inspect the file’s streams and properties, then choose compatible output options. If the source cannot be passed through in a format YouTube accepts, configure encoding instead of stream copying.
- Configure the output to use YouTube’s RTMP or RTMPS ingest URL and your stream key. Keep credentials out of public scripts and logs.
- Start FFmpeg with the infinite-loop input option and the tested output configuration. Confirm in YouTube Studio that the incoming stream is received and that the picture and sound are correct before making it public.
- Keep the process supervised and monitor both the VPS and YouTube Studio. Arrange a restart and alerting method, and test what happens after a process exit or server restart; the loop option by itself does not provide recovery.
YouTube ingest settings to check
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Its H.264 bitrate recommendations vary by resolution and frame rate: the current guidance lists 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Match settings to your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than treating one bitrate as appropriate for every stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What Livepush handles—and what remains your responsibility
Livepush documents a hosted prerecorded-video workflow, including an MP4 option, a relay workflow that receives an encoder stream and forwards it to configured destinations, and a 24/7 schedule channel for queued videos that loop. This shifts operation of the streaming process away from your VPS, but it does not remove the need to configure the YouTube destination or check that the selected plan supports your use.
Livepush’s Help Center identifies Creators as its least expensive plan for 24/7 social streaming and currently lists $39 monthly or $32.50 per month on annual billing. These are current listed terms, not a guaranteed future price. Check the latest plan matrix, destination limits, and other terms before choosing it. Unlimited streaming hours alone do not necessarily mean a plan includes a 24/7 schedule channel.

For Livepush’s manual YouTube connection method, the documented setup requires configuring the YouTube destination for each event when the channel is not linked. The same help article says YouTube comments are not visible in Livepush’s multi-chat overlay for that manual method. Treat these as caveats for that connection method, not as claims about every Livepush setup.
How to choose between them
- Prefer FFmpeg on a VPS if you want control over the command and server environment, can check source-file compatibility, and are willing to maintain monitoring and recovery. Compare total VPS cost, including egress, rather than looking only at its monthly rental price.
- Prefer Livepush if a hosted video-scheduling workflow better fits your needs than operating a VPS and its current plan supports your destinations and schedule. Confirm the price and limits directly before paying.
- Consider the source and output: a single repeating file and a queue of changing videos are different workflows. Verify how your chosen service handles the file, playlist, encoding, and destination rather than assuming identical output controls.
- Do not choose on an uptime promise alone: no comparative uptime or failure-rate measurement is established for these two configurations. Both depend on YouTube and can be interrupted by platform, network, source, or service problems.
Continuous live does not mean one permanent replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that an around-the-clock stream will become one complete, indefinitely available replay. If viewers need to watch a particular segment later, plan for that separately rather than relying on a single continuous broadcast to create a permanent recording.
