If Versionista did not record an expected change, first confirm that the exact URL is actively monitored. Then check whether filters or focus phrases exclude the change. If the change appears in Versionista but you did not receive an email, check notification settings separately: a missing alert does not necessarily mean detection failed.
1. Confirm the exact page is being monitored
Open your Versionista page list and check that the exact URL is listed as a monitored page. A URL appearing in a list of newly discovered pages does not mean Versionista is monitoring it for changes. Newly discovered URLs must be activated for monitoring; users can also pause them.
Versionista says it can discover up to 50 new URLs per scan and up to 150 new URLs per monitored site. Newly found pages can be set to pause automatically after three weeks. These discovery limits do not guarantee that a particular page will be found or monitored.
If the URL is only newly discovered
- Review the newly found URLs for the page you expected to change.
- Activate that URL for monitoring if you want Versionista to track it.
- Check the setting for newly found pages and whether the page may have been automatically paused.
2. Check filters and focus phrases
Versionista says it monitors all changes by default, but site filters can exclude parts of a page, such as regions that change frequently. Review the filter configuration for the monitored site and determine whether the changed text or element is in an excluded area.

Focus phrases can suppress other changes
If focus phrases are configured, Versionista records a new version only when one of those phrases is added or deleted. A change elsewhere may therefore go unrecorded even though the page is monitored. Phrase matching is case-insensitive, and filters are applied before focus-phrase matching.
Focus phrases apply to HTML and plain text. They do not cover images, PDFs, Word files, or other content types. If you need broad change coverage, consider whether you need focus phrases at all; Versionista’s tutorial suggests that monitoring all changes and filtering out irrelevant regions may be simpler than maintaining a keyword list.

3. Separate change detection from email notification
A missing email is a different problem from a missing recorded version. Versionista documents two notification paths: account-level summary emails and page-level instant alerts.

If a new version is present but no email arrived, investigate these settings before concluding that Versionista failed to detect the change.

4. Check whether the change is on a newly linked page
If the content moved to, or was added on, a URL recently linked from another monitored page, inspect Versionista’s new-URL discovery and reporting settings. Discovery or a notification about a newly found URL is not the same as monitoring that URL for future changes. Activate the page if you want it tracked.
5. Escalate an account-specific case with useful evidence
Public Versionista guidance explains configuration options, but it cannot establish whether a specific account’s crawl succeeded or whether a particular target page was accessible. If the URL is active, settings allow the change, and the notification path is configured, gather the following before contacting support:

- The current filter and focus-phrase settings.
- A description of the expected change and what Versionista recorded or did not record.
- Whether the issue is a missing version, a missing email, or both.
