Brian Armstrong says he believes Bitcoin’s low for the current cycle is behind it, but that is a forecast—not confirmation of a market bottom. Historical Bitcoin drawdowns have become shallower across three cited cycles, a pattern that gives his view some context but cannot show whether the current low will hold.
What Brian Armstrong said about Bitcoin’s bottom
On September 10, 2026, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said, “I personally think we’ve seen the bottom of the bitcoin price in this cycle.” He expected Bitcoin to trend higher over the following one to two years as the next halving approached, according to The Block.
That was his personal assessment, not a guarantee or a Coinbase commitment. The Block’s report put Bitcoin near $78,000 that day, down about 1.7% over the prior 24 hours and roughly 38% below its then-reported all-time high of $126,000. Those figures describe the market on September 10, 2026; they are not current prices.
Why the four-year cycle supports his view
Bitcoin’s four-year-cycle framework links recurring price movements to halving events, which reduce the rate at which new bitcoin is issued. Armstrong had already invoked that framework in June 2026, when he said his instinct was that Bitcoin had probably found a floor near $60,000. That June estimate was a separate, earlier comment—not the price level cited in his September statement.

A July 2026 article from The Motley Fool reported progressively smaller peak-to-trough drawdowns at three prior cycle lows:

The sequence is consistent with shallower declines across those three reported lows. It is a small sample, however, and does not establish that drawdowns will keep shrinking or that a low in the current cycle is final. The Motley Fool also cautioned against expecting Bitcoin to behave exactly as it did in earlier cycles.

Does history prove Bitcoin has bottomed?
No. Past drawdowns can help explain why Armstrong sees a possible cycle pattern, but they cannot confirm that Bitcoin has already reached a durable low. A market may fall again after an apparent bottom, and three historical examples are not enough to make the cycle a reliable rule.
The timing argument also has limits: Armstrong expects an uptrend as the next halving approaches, but the cited reporting does not provide a complete price series or a rigorous test showing how accurately this cycle framework predicts turning points.

How accurate has Armstrong been?
The cited sources do not support a statistical score of Armstrong’s past cycle-bottom forecasts or a definitive verification that the low he identified is final. Without a complete record of his dated calls and what Bitcoin did afterward, saying that history shows he is “close” goes beyond the available evidence.
Armstrong acknowledged the inherent uncertainty in a June 18, 2026, Yahoo Finance interview: “Well, nobody knows for sure on these things, right?” He is also the CEO of a company whose business is connected to cryptocurrency markets. That is relevant context, but it does not establish why he made this prediction.
