You still need to configure YouTube Live separately, protect the publishing credentials, and plan for YouTube stream-session rollover: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived, and its guidance does not promise one indefinitely open session. This guide covers the setup and the operational checks behind a credible 24/7 schedule.
Choose what “24/7” means for your channel
IBM Video Streaming is a SaaS platform for live broadcasts and on-demand video. Its supported plans can run multiple streams continuously in live, simulated-live, or on-demand modes. IBM is separate from YouTube, however: you must configure YouTube as the destination and operate the handoff between the services.
| Option | What viewers receive | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Live camera or production feed | An actual live input encoded and sent through IBM to YouTube | Staffing, encoder resilience, stable upload connectivity, backup input, and rights for live material |
| IBM Live Playlist | Prerecorded videos presented as a simulated-live event; chat and Q&A can remain live | Playlist preparation, opening and closing buffers, repeat schedule, content rights, and whether the format matches what viewers are promised |
| Software or hardware encoder | Either can supply an encoded feed in YouTube’s workflow | Input equipment, operator skill, budget, power and network resilience, and recovery procedures |
IBM’s playlist feature does not make prerecorded video a camera feed in real time, and its availability does not establish that every YouTube account or content library is eligible for every rebroadcast. Check the planned routing and rights before scheduling programming.
Set up IBM Video Streaming
Create and open your account
- Create an IBM Video Streaming account and select a plan, or request the 30-day trial described in IBM’s onboarding guidance. The trial is by request; confirm current availability and terms in the account purchase flow.
- Sign in with an IBM ID and verify your email if prompted.
- Open IBM Video Streaming from the My IBM dashboard. In the product dashboard, create a channel and manage broadcasts or recorded videos.
- Before budgeting, confirm the current subscription terms and what applies to your account in India. The available product information does not establish an India-specific price, tax treatment, or payment method.
For an actual live feed
- Open the IBM channel’s broadcast or encoder settings and obtain its ingest URL and channel key.
- Enter that URL and key in your software or hardware encoder. IBM offers RTMPS for secure ingest.
- Keep the URL and key private. IBM warns that someone possessing both may be able to publish to the channel; do not expose them in screenshots, public documents, shared layouts, or unsecured scripts.
- Start the encoder and verify that IBM receives the intended source before you route or schedule it onward.
For a prerecorded Live Playlist
- First establish the channel with a true broadcast lasting longer than two minutes. IBM’s playlist guidance requires this before the first playlist can be created.
- Prepare playlist videos that are each longer than two minutes.
- Put a countdown, holding slide, or other startup buffer at the beginning. IBM says playlist processing may delay the start by up to two minutes; a closing buffer is also recommended.
- Build the schedule and verify how it is presented to viewers. Simulated-live programming is prerecorded playback, even if chat or Q&A is live.
Connect the IBM output to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and copy its stream URL and stream key.
- Enter the YouTube destination URL and key in the relevant IBM output or encoder configuration. Keep the YouTube key private as well.
- Start the encoder or IBM output, then check the Live Control Room preview to confirm YouTube is receiving the intended feed.
- If the stream is scheduled, use YouTube’s Go live control when ready, as directed in YouTube’s encoder workflow.
- Allow time for account setup: YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours.
YouTube documents support for software and standalone hardware encoders. The available guidance does not establish a best encoder brand or a specific India-focused cost/performance winner, so choose according to your inputs, redundancy needs, operating skills, and budget.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Plan session rollover and recovery
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited guidance does not promise that one session can remain open indefinitely beyond that point, and it does not document an automatic reconnect strategy for an IBM-to-YouTube relay. Do not treat a continuously running IBM source as proof that the YouTube session will remain uninterrupted.
- Design a process to end and restart YouTube sessions before the relevant session limit becomes an operational risk.
- Decide who or what will detect a missing preview, a stopped broadcast, or a failed restart, and how the next session will be started.
- Verify archive behavior and the handoff between sessions in a test run before advertising uninterrupted 24/7 availability.
- Keep a backup source or recovery procedure appropriate to the channel’s staffing, equipment, power, and network conditions.
Clear rights and secure both publishing paths
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects such material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it; a copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end the broadcast. YouTube says licensed third-party content may still be interrupted when the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Before scheduling music, clips, sports, news, or other externally owned material, confirm the required permissions and, where applicable, arrange allowlisting with the rights holder.

India-specific checks before launch
The documented setup describes a general IBM and YouTube workflow, not an India-specific service or cost assessment. Confirm billing, taxes, account availability, and payment options in your own account. Test that the actual upload connection and chosen stream quality work reliably from the location and network you will use. Legal obligations depend on the channel and its content; verify the rules applicable to your material rather than assuming the platform setup settles them.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show an incoming preview | Wrong destination URL or key, output not started, or YouTube setup not complete | Recheck the YouTube stream URL and key in the configured output, confirm the source is running, and check Live Control Room. If this is the account’s first live stream, allow for YouTube’s stated enablement time of up to 24 hours. |
| The IBM channel receives an unexpected broadcast | Someone else may have obtained its ingest URL and channel key | Restrict credential access, remove exposed copies, and review who can publish to the channel. Treat the URL/key pair as a publishing credential. |
| The first playlist does not start as expected | The channel may not yet have had the required true broadcast, a video may be too short, or processing may still be underway | Confirm a prior true broadcast longer than two minutes, ensure each playlist video exceeds two minutes, and include the recommended startup buffer for processing delay. |
| A stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder | YouTube may have detected third-party content or applied a policy action | Review the material in the live feed and its rights status. For licensed third-party content, check whether the rights holder must add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. |
| The YouTube broadcast ends or archives during continuous programming | YouTube’s session and archive behavior differs from an always-running source | Follow the planned session rollover and recovery process; do not assume IBM’s continuous source automatically keeps one YouTube session open. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is prerecorded video running continuously on YouTube rather than an actual live camera feed, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos; it is not a camera-live service. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
