You can’t use Vimeo’s 24/7 Extended streaming mode to simulcast to YouTube. Vimeo documents Extended streaming as an Enterprise add-on for an encoder-fed stream, but says the mode does not support simulcasting to any other destination. If you need a continuous prerecorded YouTube feed, use a different workflow; if you need a finite scheduled broadcast, Vimeo can send it to YouTube through its integration or custom RTMP.
What Vimeo can—and cannot—schedule
The key distinction is between a continuous stream and a scheduled event. Vimeo Extended streaming keeps a Vimeo event active while an encoder supplies a signal, until an operator ends it. It is not a way to send that uninterrupted feed to YouTube: Vimeo explicitly says Extended streams cannot simulcast to other destinations, including YouTube. See Vimeo’s Extended streaming FAQ.
| Goal | Vimeo option | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| One uninterrupted 24/7 feed on Vimeo | Extended streaming | Enterprise add-on; encoder signal required; no simulcasting, recording, or DVR. |
| A finite live event that also appears on YouTube | Vimeo event with YouTube integration or custom RTMP | YouTube live streaming must be enabled for the account; a scheduled RTMP event may require a separate Go live action in YouTube Live Control Room. |
| Separate events on a recurring schedule | Recurring Vimeo event | Each occurrence is a separate broadcast, not one continuous feed; the duration field does not automatically end it. |
Set up Vimeo Extended streaming for a continuous Vimeo broadcast
This workflow is for a continuous stream on Vimeo, not YouTube. Vimeo says Extended streaming requires the Enterprise add-on and an encoder supplying the stream. The event remains active until manually ended, and Extended streams are not recorded or archived.
- Open the Vimeo live event’s settings and go to Production.
- Turn off Record event and DVR.
- Enable Extended stream.
- Configure your encoder with the event’s streaming credentials, then start sending its signal to Vimeo.
- When the broadcast should stop, end it manually in Vimeo.
Vimeo’s instructions are in How to enable extended streaming. The setting does not unlock a YouTube destination: switching to standard simulcasting is not a workaround that preserves Extended mode.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Send a finite Vimeo event to YouTube
For a scheduled broadcast with a defined start and end, connect YouTube as a destination on the Vimeo event. Vimeo lists Advanced, Premium, and Enterprise-with-Events as eligible plans for this workflow; the YouTube account must be verified for live streaming. Plan labels and limits can change, so confirm the current terms in your account before scheduling.
Option 1: Connect your YouTube account
- Open the Vimeo event and select Settings > Destinations.
- Connect the YouTube account and select the destination for the event.
- Start the Vimeo event at its scheduled time. With the integrated destination, Vimeo sends the event to YouTube when the Vimeo event goes live.

Option 2: Use custom RTMP
- Create or open the YouTube live event and copy its RTMP server URL and stream key.
- In Vimeo, open the event and go to Settings > Destinations; add a custom RTMP destination.
- Paste the YouTube RTMP URL and stream key into the corresponding Vimeo fields, then save the destination.
- Start the Vimeo encoder feed and check YouTube Live Control Room. If the YouTube event was scheduled in advance, receiving the feed may not publish it: select Go live in YouTube Live Control Room when prompted.
Treat a stream key as a credential: do not share it publicly, and replace it if it is exposed. Vimeo’s RTMP and integration guidance is covered in its YouTube simulcasting instructions.
Destination and session limits to check
Vimeo’s current Live Events FAQ lists up to two simultaneous streams for Advanced and up to three for Premium and Enterprise, with a 12-hour limit per stream. Enterprise may add streams and Extended streaming. Vimeo’s simulcasting guide lists up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations. These are account and policy details, not guaranteed capacity; verify your plan and current terms before production.

The same FAQ describes a 2 TB per-month bandwidth policy. Vimeo advises contacting support ahead of large events, citing 50,000+ viewers outside the U.S. or 100,000–150,000+ viewers within the U.S. as thresholds for advance discussion—not guaranteed audience capacity. See Vimeo’s Live events FAQ and About simulcasting.
Use recurring events for repeated broadcasts, not 24/7 playback
Vimeo recurring events can be scheduled daily, weekly, or monthly. Each occurrence is a separate stream and counts toward simultaneous-stream limits. Vimeo says the duration field is informational; it does not automatically stop the broadcast, so the operator must end each occurrence. Set the occurrence duration and series end date separately. See How to create a recurring live event.

For a finite prerecorded Vimeo event that should start automatically, Vimeo offers a separate workflow using its web production tool. It requires a scheduled start, uses the browser’s time zone when converting the schedule for viewers, and can fail to start if concurrent-stream limits are occupied. It does not support external encoders. It still creates a finite event, not a nonstop YouTube feed. Details: How to schedule a prerecorded event to start automatically.

- The stream is live on Vimeo but not on YouTube: Confirm YouTube is selected as a destination and the account is verified for live streaming. For a scheduled custom RTMP event, check Live Control Room and select Go live if required.
- The RTMP feed does not connect: Recheck the copied server URL and stream key, and confirm they belong to the intended YouTube event. Replace an exposed key.
- A destination stops receiving the stream: Check whether it was toggled off. Vimeo notes that disabling a destination midstream archives the event there; enabling it again can create a new destination event and split the broadcast.
- A recurring or auto-start event will not begin: Check that another stream has not occupied the account’s simultaneous-stream allowance. For prerecorded auto-start, confirm the scheduled time and browser time-zone setting.
- The continuous Vimeo event ends or never starts: Confirm Extended streaming is enabled, the encoder is sending a signal, and the event has not been manually ended. This mode does not provide YouTube simulcasting, recording, or DVR.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the actual goal is a prerecorded YouTube channel that loops continuously, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it runs the feed from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
Each slot includes 10 GB of storage pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it is not a camera broadcast. Every plan has the same features, with billing periods from a day to a year. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
