Use Wowza Video’s 24×7 channel workflow—the current name for the cloud service formerly called Wowza Streaming Cloud—and send its output to a YouTube Live event using that event’s server URL and stream key. First confirm your Wowza account has 24×7 streaming enabled and your YouTube channel is eligible to livestream. A continuous YouTube event is not a dependable full-day archive, so plan recording separately.
Know which Wowza product you are setting up
Wowza Support says the product formerly named Wowza Streaming Cloud is now called Wowza Video. For a cloud-hosted, continuously running channel, follow Wowza Video’s 24×7 channel workflow. Do not confuse it with Wowza Streaming Engine: Engine is a separate product, and its YouTube instructions configure a stream target inside an Engine application rather than a Wowza Video 24×7 channel.

Wowza’s current setup documentation says 24×7 channels cannot be recorded in Wowza Video, do not support 4K, and do not automatically stop after 20 minutes without encoder activity. The billing mode is selected during setup and cannot be changed after channel creation. Confirm the account’s current billing terms and eligible features before creating the channel.
Check YouTube and Wowza eligibility before setup
Make sure YouTube Live is enabled
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days. Initial live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. These are YouTube requirements; enabling 24×7 streaming with Wowza does not grant YouTube eligibility.

Confirm 24×7 access in Wowza
Wowza says 24×7 streaming is not available on a trial account and instructs customers to contact Wowza to enable it. Check that the option is available to your account before building around this workflow. Wowza’s API reference lists asia_pacific_india as a broadcast-location value, but that does not establish that every plan, 24×7 configuration, or feature is available in India. Check the locations offered in your account and confirm plan terms with Wowza.
Choose a suitable source and archive plan
You need an encoder or other source supported by the selected Wowza Video connection workflow. YouTube accepts software or standalone hardware encoders; buying dedicated hardware is optional if you already have a compatible source. If you do need equipment, look for a hardware video encoder for live streaming, but verify its compatibility with your own source and Wowza configuration—no specific model is established here.

Decide separately how to keep a recording. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. One uninterrupted 24/7 event is therefore not a safe sole archive plan, and Wowza Video’s 24×7 stream itself cannot be recorded in Wowza Video.
Set up the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live event. Use YouTube’s encoder workflow and choose an event visibility appropriate for testing; an unlisted test can let you check the signal without publishing it publicly.
- Copy the event’s server URL and stream key. YouTube may label the server URL as the Stream URL. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to your event. Do not post it, share it publicly, or include it in screenshots.
- Keep the Live Control Room open. You will use its preview and stream status to confirm that YouTube is receiving the Wowza output before you make the broadcast public.
Create the Wowza Video 24×7 channel and connect YouTube
- Sign in to Wowza Video. On the Live streams page, choose Add new, then select 24×7 channel. The option depends on 24×7 access being enabled for the account.
- Name the channel and choose its broadcast location. Select a location close to where the source originates to reduce the distance between the source and Wowza. If your source is in India, choose a nearby location only if it is offered for your account and configuration; the existence of an India value in the API reference does not guarantee account availability.
- Choose the billing mode carefully. Wowza says billing varies by mode and the mode cannot be changed after the channel is created. Review the current terms shown in your account before confirming; no Wowza price or India-specific tax treatment is established here.
- Connect the encoder or source. Use the connection details and supported source workflow shown for the channel. Start the source and confirm that Wowza reports an active incoming stream and displays a usable preview before moving on.
- Add YouTube as the external RTMP destination. In the Wowza Video output or target settings, select an output rendition and add an external RTMP service target. Enter the primary server URL from the YouTube Live Control Room and the YouTube stream key in the corresponding destination fields. In the Wowza Video YouTube workflow described in its guide, username and password are left blank. The guide was updated on 2025-02-24; labels and screens can change, so follow the current fields presented in your Wowza account.
- Start the Wowza channel and verify both ends. Confirm Wowza shows the input active and the channel preview playing. Then confirm the YouTube Live Control Room receives a preview and shows the expected audio and video. Start or make the event public only after the preview is correct.
Tune the stream and protect continuity
Bandwidth and output quality
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total bitrate being sent. For example, if the configured outgoing stream uses 5 Mbps, target at least 6 Mbps of stable upload capacity (5 Mbps plus 20%), with additional margin if other devices or services share the connection. This is a planning calculation, not a guarantee of performance.

Use an output rendition supported by the Wowza configuration and suitable for the source and available upload capacity. Wowza Video 24×7 channels do not support 4K, so do not plan this workflow around a 4K output. For comparison, Wowza’s separate Streaming Engine-to-YouTube guide describes an H.264 source encoder, an audio-bearing stream, and an RTMP target; those Engine-specific directions should not be assumed to describe every Wowza Video setting.
Monitor it as an operating service
YouTube recommends checking the preview, verifying that the stream is accessible, and continuously monitoring audio and video. For a channel intended to remain live around the clock, keep a short runbook with the following checks:

- Confirm the source encoder is running and producing the expected audio and video.
- Check Wowza’s incoming-stream status and the configured target status.
- Check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and public watch page after launch.
- Watch upload capacity and network stability at the source; investigate repeated drops rather than treating a preview check as proof of continuous operation.
- Record who should restart the source, inspect the target, or escalate a Wowza or YouTube issue.
A redundant source or network path can be an operational choice, but it is not a stated requirement of the documented workflow. Neither the cited YouTube guidance nor the Wowza setup details establish an uptime guarantee, so do not design on the assumption that a connection cannot fail.

Keep recordings separately if they matter
YouTube Help’s archive guidance says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. If you need a dependable recording, record locally or arrange another independent recording workflow, and consider ending and restarting YouTube sessions before they reach 12 hours. That creates a continuity and scheduling decision; it does not make a single 24/7 event a reliable archive. Wowza Video 24×7 itself cannot be recorded in Wowza Video.

Confirm rights for everything in the stream
YouTube’s live-stream terms require you to have the rights needed for worldwide use of live content, including music, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. A continuous loop of third-party music, video, or other material is not automatically safe to broadcast. Confirm the rights for the actual content and any applicable Indian legal or licensing obligations; the cited platform guidance does not interpret Indian copyright or broadcast rules for your particular use.
Verify local availability rather than assuming it
The documented India-region value supports checking for a nearby broadcast location, not assuming every Wowza plan or 24×7 feature is offered there. The reviewed setup guidance does not establish India-specific YouTube ingest requirements, broadband thresholds beyond YouTube’s general headroom recommendation, local pricing, taxes, or permissions. Verify these details with the services and authorities relevant to your account and content.
