To make a continuous lofi live stream, create a YouTube Live event and send it an audio-and-video feed from an encoder, using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The playlist can supply or organize what you want to play, but it does not replace that encoder connection.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible to livestream. YouTube says a channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- An encoder: software or standalone hardware that sends your audio and video to YouTube Live.
- Audio and visuals you have permission to broadcast, plus an internet connection with enough upload capacity for the chosen stream bitrate.
YouTube explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format for streaming. It does not prescribe one built-in way to feed a YouTube playlist directly into an encoder, so check that your chosen playback and encoder setup can deliver the complete feed you intend to broadcast.
Set up the continuous lofi stream
1. Enable livestreaming and check eligibility
In YouTube Studio, start the livestream setup process and confirm that the channel can go live. If this is the channel’s first livestream, allow up to 24 hours for activation before your planned broadcast. YouTube’s eligibility guidance also requires channel verification and no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and its encoder setup guidance.
2. Create or schedule the live event
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a livestream.
- In the stream settings, retrieve the YouTube Live server URL and stream key.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as the password and address an encoder uses to send a feed; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not publish it in a playlist description, overlay, or public post.

3. Connect the encoder and prepare the playback
In your software or hardware encoder, configure the audio-and-video source you intend to broadcast, then enter the server URL and stream key from the event. Make sure the source can continue playing the lofi material in the order you want. A viewer’s playlist Loop control is not an encoder connection and does not make a live feed by itself.
There is no specific playlist-to-encoder automation method established by YouTube’s setup pages. Do not assume that creating a playlist automatically feeds it into a live event; verify your chosen playback method and encoder before scheduling a long broadcast.

4. Test the feed and network
- Start sending a test feed and wait for the preview in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Check that audio is audible and clean, video is moving as expected, and the scheduled or live watch page is accessible to its intended audience.
- Monitor stream health during the test and after going live. Confirm that both audio and video continue rather than stopping after one track or clip.
- Ensure available upload bandwidth exceeds the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom; its streaming tips explain that bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth.
Plan around long-stream behavior
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. If a complete replay or rewind matters, plan an end-and-restart schedule rather than assuming a playlist loop guarantees a complete archive. See YouTube’s DVR guidance and its encoder guidance.
Check music and visual rights
Before broadcasting, confirm that you have the rights needed to livestream every track, image, animation, and other visual in the feed. A playlist being available on YouTube does not establish that its contents are licensed for rebroadcast. Rights for any particular lofi playlist or track must be checked separately; technical setup guidance cannot confirm them.

Troubleshoot common problems
The playlist loops for viewers, but there is no live broadcast
Cause: The playlist’s Loop control only repeats playback; it does not send a live feed. Fix: Create a YouTube Live event and connect an encoder with that event’s server URL and stream key.
The encoder cannot connect to YouTube
Cause: Livestreaming may not be enabled yet, the channel may not meet eligibility requirements, or the connection details may be wrong. Fix: Confirm channel verification and livestream eligibility, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, and carefully re-enter the event’s current server URL and stream key.

The preview stalls or stream health is poor
Cause: The upload connection may not sustain the total bitrate, or the playback or encoder source may have stopped. Fix: Check that the source is still playing, monitor Live Control Room stream health, and leave the recommended 20% upload-bandwidth headroom.
The stream runs past 12 hours
Cause: Long broadcasts cross YouTube’s documented archive and DVR boundary. Fix: If automatic archiving or rewind is important, schedule a stop and restart before 12 hours; do not rely on playlist repetition to preserve a full replay.
