A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To stream a folder of prerecorded videos to YouTube Live, put the videos in playback order in an FFmpeg concat playlist, loop and pace that playlist, then send the encoded output to YouTube’s ingest URL with your stream key. This works best when the files have matching stream layouts and codecs. The computer running FFmpeg and its internet connection must remain available for the stream to continue.
Before you start
- Install an FFmpeg build that includes the encoder you plan to use, such as
libx264for H.264. Available encoders vary by build and hardware. - Make sure your channel is eligible to go live and that live streaming has been activated. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Have enough upload bandwidth to sustain the chosen stream settings, plus the video files stored locally and accessible to FFmpeg.
- Use videos you have the right to stream. A live broadcast does not remove copyright obligations or guarantee that YouTube will allow or monetize the content.
YouTube currently supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest and lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for standard encoder streams. The exact options depend on the FFmpeg build and available hardware. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
1. Build an ordered playlist
Create a plain-text file named playlist.txt in the folder containing your videos. Put the following marker on the first line, exactly as shown, then add one file entry per video in the order you want them to play:
ffconcat version 1.0
file 'video-01.mp4'
file 'video-02.mp4'
file 'video-03.mp4'
Use relative paths when possible. The concat demuxer’s default safe mode accepts simple relative filenames made from portable characters and rejects some unsafe paths. If a filename has spaces or special characters, quote or escape it correctly according to FFmpeg’s concat syntax. Avoid disabling safe mode unless you understand the path implications.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check that the files are compatible
The concat demuxer joins files; it is not a general-purpose normalizer. FFmpeg expects the files to have the same streams, codecs, and time bases. For example, a playlist can fail or behave unpredictably if one file has no audio, another uses a different audio codec, or their stream layouts do not match. Transcode incompatible files into a consistent set first, then verify the results.
The demuxer derives timestamps using each file’s duration. A truncated or incorrectly probed file can cause timing artifacts at transitions. If playback jumps, overlaps, or has gaps at a particular boundary, inspect the files around that point and normalize or replace the problematic input.
2. Choose YouTube-compatible output settings
Set the output resolution and frame rate to suit both the source footage and your sustained upload capacity. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include the following profiles; its table may change, so check it when configuring a new stream.
| Output profile | YouTube H.264 recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 14 Mbps |
YouTube calls for CBR, a two-second recommended keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes; it supports frame rates up to 60 fps. The figures above are YouTube’s recommendations for H.264, not a guarantee that your connection or machine can sustain them. Run an upload speed test and select a profile with room for network variation. The source files also matter: encoding at a higher resolution or frame rate does not restore detail or motion that is absent from the originals.

Translate the keyframe interval into GOP size
With output at 30 fps, a two-second GOP is commonly 60 frames; at 60 fps, it is commonly 120. In FFmpeg, -g sets the GOP size in frames for many encoders. Confirm that the encoder and rate-control settings in your build produce the intended interval and CBR behavior.
3. Start the repeating stream
From the playlist’s directory, run a command like this, replacing the ingest destination and key with the values shown for your event in YouTube Live Control Room:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -i playlist.txt
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 10M -maxrate 10M -bufsize 20M
-r 30 -g 60 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -f flv
"rtmps://YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY"
This example illustrates the options and uses a 1080p30 H.264 video bitrate recommendation; it does not scale or otherwise convert the playlist to 1080p. Use it only if your inputs and connection suit the selected output. For a 720p60 profile, for example, set the intended output frame rate and GOP accordingly and use the matching recommended bitrate. Exact compatibility depends on the files, FFmpeg build, encoder, and YouTube event settings.
-rereads file input at its native frame rate, pacing it like a real-time source. FFmpeg documents it as equivalent to-readrate 1.-stream_loop -1loops the playlist indefinitely. Protect the stream key
Your stream key is a credential that directs an encoder feed to your YouTube channel and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not put a real key in a public script, screenshot, or shared log. Copy the server URL and key from the event’s Live Control Room, and reset the key there if it is exposed; YouTube documents reset permissions in its live stream settings guidance.
4. Connect through YouTube Studio and test
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule an event. YouTube’s live stream settings include privacy and scheduling controls.
- Copy that event’s server URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the command’s output destination. Keep the key private.
- Start FFmpeg. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in YouTube’s preview, then select Go live when the picture and sound are ready.
- Test with representative motion and audio before announcing the stream. Check the preview and stream-health messages, and keep monitoring after going live.
YouTube recommends testing the encoder setup and checking stream health. A private or unlisted test can help you check the feed without making the test public, subject to the event’s available settings.
5. Plan for long-running streams
The FFmpeg loop repeats the playlist, but it does not make a single YouTube event limitless or ensure an unbroken archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when ended; its guidance does not promise one endlessly running event or an indefinite complete recording. For a long broadcast, plan how you will stop and restart the process and manage YouTube events, interruptions, and archives rather than assuming one session can run forever.
Local FFmpeg offers control over files and encoding, but the machine, process, storage, and network connection need to keep working. If the computer sleeps, reboots, loses connectivity, or FFmpeg exits, the feed can stop. A cloud playout service is an alternative when you do not want a home computer to stay on.

Common problems and fixes
FFmpeg rejects the playlist or a path
Check that ffconcat version 1.0 is the exact first line, that each file entry points to an existing file, and that quoting is valid. Keep paths relative and simple; the default safe mode rejects some absolute or unusual paths.
Concat errors or bad transitions
Compare the files’ stream layouts, codecs, and time bases. Normalize the set so each file has matching streams and codecs. Check durations and inspect the media around a jump, gap, or overlap because incorrect duration probing can affect concat timestamps.
YouTube does not receive the feed
Verify the event’s server URL and stream key, confirm that the event is expecting an encoder stream, and ensure your channel’s live access is active. If you exposed the key, reset it in Live Control Room and update the command.
The stream buffers, drops frames, or reports poor health
Check the upload connection while streaming and reduce the chosen resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if it cannot sustain the profile. Also check whether the computer’s encoder can keep up; a supported codec on paper does not mean a particular machine can encode it smoothly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does FFmpeg upload the video files to YouTube one by one?
No. FFmpeg reads the playlist locally and sends one encoded live feed to YouTube.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan I use this to stream a folder directly without making a playlist?
The method here uses an explicit concat playlist so you control playback order; it does not automatically scan and sort a folder.
