An always-on YouTube live stream can earn YouTube Premium revenue when a Premium member watches it, as long as the creator has accepted YouTube’s Watch Page Monetization Module and meets the applicable monetization requirements. YouTube says Premium revenue is distributed according to how much members watch a creator’s content. It does not publish a fixed per-view rate or a special payment formula for 24/7 streams, so stream hours alone cannot predict Premium earnings.
How Premium revenue works on a continuous live stream
A Premium member pays YouTube for a subscription. When that member watches eligible creator content, YouTube allocates part of the subscription revenue to creators based on member viewing. YouTube describes the basis as how much Premium members watch a creator’s content; its public guidance does not provide a calculation that lets a creator work out the payment for a particular viewer, hour, or stream.
YouTube defines Watch Pages as pages for long-form videos and live streams. For a live stream viewed on its Watch Page to earn Premium revenue, the creator must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube’s Premium guidance also says creators earning Premium revenue from long-form videos need the module and Watch Page ads turned on. The available YouTube guidance does not describe a separate Premium bonus, multiplier, or payment rule for streams that run continuously. It also does not publicly specify a minimum number of Premium-member views, or how simultaneous or repeated playback is handled for this purpose. Avoid treating every viewer-hour as having a uniform cash value.

Do 24/7 live streams make money from YouTube Premium?
They can, if eligible Premium members watch the stream and the channel has the required Watch Page monetization setup. Being live continuously does not, by itself, guarantee Premium revenue. Nor does the fact that the stream has few or no ads establish that Premium revenue is absent: Premium subscription revenue is distinct from ads shown in the player.
For this reason, an estimate such as “hours live × assumed Premium rate” is not supported by YouTube’s published formula. The channel’s own reporting is the appropriate source for actual earnings.

Premium revenue is different from ads and fan funding
A monetized live stream may have several separate income sources. Each depends on a different viewer action or setting, and one should not be used as a proxy for another.

YouTube’s current live-stream guidance says pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when monetization is turned on; mid-rolls can be automatic or manually controlled. Likewise, YouTube’s earnings overview lists 55% of net Watch Page advertising revenue and 70% of net revenue from channel memberships and specified fan-funding features. Neither figure is a Premium revenue share. The percentages are described in YouTube’s partner earnings overview; do not apply them to Premium subscription revenue.
How to check what your stream actually earned
Review live and replay ad revenue
In YouTube Analytics, use the Live filter to review the ad-revenue breakdown for a live stream and its replay. This report concerns ads, not a substitute calculation for Premium earnings. YouTube explains live monetization and reporting in its live-stream monetization help page.

Look for Premium reporting where available
YouTube says creators with access to downloadable reports may see Premium watch time and earnings by video. Use the stream’s own report, when available, rather than estimating from total live hours or applying an ad RPM. YouTube also says watch time from downloaded videos is recorded and incorporated when a Premium member next signs in online, and that background playback while using other apps or with the screen off counts toward watch time. These statements describe watch time; they do not publish a separate payment rate for those viewing modes.

What YouTube’s published figures do—and do not—say
YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour for channels using automatic live mid-rolls compared with channels not using them, measured across 207 countries in January 2024. That is a comparison about ad revenue, not Premium revenue, and it should not be used to estimate Premium earnings. YouTube’s live ad guidance is at Tips on how to make money on YouTube – Live.
The practical conclusion is narrow but important: eligible Premium-member viewing can contribute to a live stream’s earnings, but YouTube does not publicly state a fixed Premium rate, a stream-specific multiplier, or a reliable way to forecast payment from continuous runtime. Keep Premium, ads, and fan funding separate in both your estimates and your Analytics review.
