Yes—if the service sends your video from its own cloud servers. No—if your PC is running the encoder that sends the stream. A cloud-hosted service can keep prerecorded video going after you turn off your computer; a locally encoded stream cannot rely on a powered-off PC. Check how a service actually sends video before counting on it to stay live.
What happens when you turn off the PC?
YouTube receives live video from an encoder. If that encoder is running on your computer, it must keep sending content for your broadcast to continue. YouTube’s instructions say to end a stream by stopping the content sent from the encoder, making the dependency clear: powering off the machine that is sending the video stops its contribution to the broadcast. See YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
This applies to a 24/7 broadcast built with a local encoder just as it does to a shorter stream. Your channel may still exist and the scheduled event may remain visible, but the video feed from that computer will no longer be arriving.
Which setups can keep streaming with your PC off?
Cloud-hosted prerecorded video
A cloud-hosted service plays or sends your uploaded video from its own infrastructure, rather than relying on an encoder running on your PC. After setup, your computer can be off while the remote service continues transmitting. YouTube’s encoder help page describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos on YouTube. That listing identifies an example of the category; it is not an uptime guarantee or an endorsement.

Local computer or standalone hardware encoder
A software encoder on your PC stops sending when the computer shuts down. YouTube also supports standalone hardware encoders, which can remove the PC from the setup, but the hardware encoder still has to be operating and connected to send video. YouTube’s guide covers encoder setup and types at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

What to check before choosing a cloud service
“Cloud-based” answers whether your own PC has to stay on; it does not establish how dependable a particular service is or what it supports. Confirm the details that matter to your stream directly with the provider.
- Video and limits: Check accepted file formats, resolution, frame rate, storage allowance, and any stream-duration or playlist limits.
- Recovery: Find out what happens if the service loses its connection to YouTube and whether it attempts to restart the stream.
- Price and availability: Check current billing terms and whether signup and payment are available in your region. The YouTube help listing does not establish provider prices or geographic availability.
- Rights and channel rules: Make sure you have the rights to the video and audio, and review YouTube’s policies for live content. Using a cloud service does not exempt a stream from copyright or platform rules.
- Archiving: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited guidance does not promise that a longer continuous broadcast will be saved as one complete replay.

YouTube’s live-streaming overview lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console methods, and notes that first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. See Get started with live streaming.
