Yes. YouTube can recommend livestreams to people who have not watched your channel before, when a stream matches their interests and performs well with them. But YouTube’s public guidance does not say that running a stream 24/7 earns a special recommendation boost—or a penalty. Continuous uptime alone is not a proven growth strategy.
How YouTube recommendations apply to livestreams
YouTube describes recommendations as personalized: its systems try to find relevant content for each viewer using factors such as that person’s viewing interests and how content performs. YouTube says its recommendation guidance covers viewer interests across Shorts, long videos, livestreams, and posts. Livestreams are therefore eligible to be recommended; they are not excluded because they are live.
YouTube also says it does not favor a particular video format. That does not mean every viewer wants every format: people have different format preferences, and competition for their attention varies. A stream may reach a new viewer through recommendations if it is a good fit and viewers respond to it, but no individual stream is guaranteed placement.
YouTube says it uses fresh performance data for each individual video rather than relying only on past results. A channel’s previous success, or lack of it, does not by itself determine how a particular stream will fare.

Does being live 24/7 help a stream get recommended?
YouTube’s public guidance does not establish that a 24/7 broadcast receives more recommendations than a shorter livestream. It also does not establish a penalty for continuous broadcasting. There is no basis here for claiming that more hours live automatically produce more reach, or that YouTube suppresses a stream because it stays live.
Continuous availability may give viewers more opportunities to encounter a stream, but that is different from an algorithmic boost. Recommendation reach depends on whether the content fits a viewer and how that viewer responds; duration alone is not a promise of discovery.

How to check whether new viewers find your livestream
Use YouTube Studio’s Content tab and select the Live view to inspect livestream performance. YouTube’s Live analytics can show impressions, impressions click-through rate, average view duration, and traffic sources such as Suggested videos. These reports describe your channel’s results; they do not prove that running continuously caused them.
- Check impressions and click-through rate. Impressions indicate how often eligible YouTube surfaces showed the stream thumbnail; click-through rate helps show whether viewers chose it after seeing it.
- Check average view duration. This helps assess whether people who entered stayed to watch. Interpret it in the context of your stream’s format and audience.
- Review traffic sources. Look for Suggested videos and other sources to see where viewers actually came from. YouTube’s Live destination is another place viewers can browse current and upcoming streams, but it does not guarantee a Home or Suggested placement.
- Compare like with like. If you test different durations, compare streams with similar topics and audiences. Review impressions, click-through rate, average view duration, traffic sources, and new versus returning viewers together. Treat the comparison as your own channel experiment, not proof of a platform-wide rule.
What can improve the odds of reaching new viewers?
Focus on audience fit and the viewing experience rather than extending runtime for its own sake. YouTube’s creator guidance recommends making content for a wider audience where appropriate, using clear titles and thumbnails, collaborating with other creators, and covering relevant trends or seasonal events. Consider when your audience is active when scheduling a livestream; timing can affect who is available to watch, but it does not guarantee recommendation distribution.

YouTube also says viewers who return regularly are more likely to be recommended more videos from a channel in the future. That supports building a reason to come back, not simply keeping a stream running longer. Format preferences vary, so assess your own viewers’ responses rather than assuming that live content suits everyone.

If you want a continuous stream, the setup is a separate decision from recommendation strategy. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, and encoder approaches for livestreaming. Its webcam method requires a computer with a webcam; a webcam is not established as necessary for mobile or encoder-based streaming, and the available guidance does not say that any particular setup improves recommendation reach.
