To loop children’s videos as a 24/7 livestream, use an encoder that can play the files continuously, connect it to a YouTube Live event with your stream key, and keep the encoder and internet connection running—or use a cloud service to handle the continuous stream. Before going live, confirm that you have the rights to every video and soundtrack and choose the correct audience setting. Plan a separate recording backup: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
What you need before starting
- A ready YouTube channel: YouTube Help says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its current guidance says streamers must be at least 16. If children appear in the live feed, review YouTube’s applicable rules for minors on camera as well.
- Permission to stream every asset: Check the rights for each video, image and soundtrack, including music embedded in a clip. YouTube identifies copyright strikes and matches to copyrighted live broadcasts as reasons access to live streaming may be restricted. Having a copy of a file does not by itself establish that you can livestream it.
- An encoder or cloud service: YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder; it does not automatically turn local files into a stream. A local encoder depends on the computer, power and internet connection staying available.
- A separate archive plan: If you need a copy of the broadcast, arrange local recording and enough storage before starting. A YouTube archive is not guaranteed for an event this long.
Prepare the children’s videos and choose the audience setting
Review the entire playlist, not just the first clip. Confirm that the material is suitable for the intended audience and that the account is authorized to broadcast it. Pay particular attention to music and other audio that may have rights separate from the video.
Set the audience accurately in YouTube Studio’s current Live Control Room. Whether a stream is made for kids depends on its actual intended audience and content; the presence of children in a file alone does not determine the setting. YouTube’s audience-setting help says this audience choice cannot be set using Classic live streaming tools, so use the current Live Control Room.
A made-for-kids designation affects features. YouTube lists live chat, comments on archives and upcoming streams, and reminder notifications as disabled for made-for-kids live streams. Personalized ads are disabled, although contextual ads may appear. These feature changes are not a blanket prohibition on livestreaming children’s content.

Set up the folder as a continuous feed
The files need to be played by the encoder as one continuing output. Use the encoder’s supported media-playback or playlist controls to put the files in the order you want and enable continuous looping if that control is available. The exact steps vary by encoder: YouTube’s guidance explains how to send an encoder feed, but does not establish a specific folder-watching or playlist-looping recipe. Check the encoder’s current documentation for its precise controls before relying on it to restart clips or handle files added to the folder later.
If the encoder cannot reliably play a folder as a loop, prepare a continuous sequence using a workflow you can test, or choose a service that supports the file inputs and looping behavior you need. Do not assume that pointing an encoder at a folder will automatically include every file or loop without gaps.

Configure the encoder and create the YouTube event
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule the live event. Set its title, description, visibility and audience for the actual broadcast.
- Copy the ingest details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the event into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who gets it may be able to send a feed to your event. Do not publish it or include it in a public screenshot.
- Choose a compatible output profile. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of four seconds. For H.264 at 1080p and 30 frames per second, YouTube’s current encoder table recommends 10 Mbps. That is a recommendation for that specific profile, not a guarantee that your connection can sustain it. Use the matching YouTube table row for other resolutions or frame rates rather than extrapolating from this figure.
- Check upload capacity. Select a bitrate your outbound connection can sustain throughout the day. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; measure the connection under realistic conditions and leave that margin above the selected stream bitrate.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Confirm that the correct video and audio appear in the Live Control Room preview, check the stream-health status, then start the event using the encoder and the Live Control Room flow. Follow the current interface prompts for the event you created.
Test the loop, monitor the stream and protect a local copy
Test before making the broadcast public. Use representative video and audio, including clips with more motion or louder sound, and let the playlist run long enough to confirm that it advances and repeats as intended. YouTube recommends leaving bandwidth headroom, checking the preview and stream health, and testing with similar audio and movement to the planned broadcast. A connectivity disruption can break the outgoing stream, so a local setup needs ongoing monitoring or a separately configured recovery plan.
If you need a recording, enable local recording in the encoder and confirm that the output file continues to grow. Keep the recording destination on a drive with enough free space for your chosen encoding and retention period; the required capacity depends on those choices. YouTube’s help recommends a local recording backup for long streams.

YouTube Help’s “Archive live streams” guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its wording is intentionally not a promise that every shorter stream will be saved. YouTube also warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If an archive matters, do not rely on YouTube as the only copy.

Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
- YouTube never shows a preview: Check that the event’s server URL and stream key were copied into the matching encoder fields, that the encoder is sending, and that the channel is eligible to livestream.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check outbound bandwidth and reduce the encoder bitrate to a profile your connection can sustain. Preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, then test the connection and stream health again.
- The playlist stops or does not include all files: Verify the encoder’s playlist and looping controls against its current documentation. YouTube’s ingest guidance does not specify how a particular encoder handles folders, newly added files or loop transitions.
- The video plays but audio is missing or incorrect: Inspect the encoder’s audio input and test representative clips before going public; YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and movement to the real broadcast.
- The event has no YouTube archive: A stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all. Check the local recording file and use that copy if it was enabled and is growing.
- Live features are unavailable: If the stream is designated made for kids, features such as live chat and reminder notifications are disabled. Check the audience setting in the current Live Control Room and make sure it reflects the content accurately.
- Live streaming is restricted or a broadcast is interrupted over rights: Check channel eligibility and the rights for all video and audio. YouTube identifies copyright strikes and matches to copyrighted live broadcasts as possible grounds for live-streaming restrictions.
Costs and workflow trade-offs
A local encoder avoids a cloud-streaming subscription but requires a computer, power and a connection to remain available, along with a suitable local recording setup if you need an archive. A cloud workflow shifts continuous playback away from your home computer; before choosing any service, confirm it supports the file inputs and looping behavior you need. YouTube’s encoder-help material names Gyre as a cloud-based prerecorded-video tool, but that mention alone does not establish its current folder support, features, fees or service terms.
Resolution is also a reliability and bandwidth choice: higher-bitrate profiles need a more stable upload connection. Use the matching YouTube encoder recommendation for your chosen resolution and frame rate, leave headroom, and test before broadcasting publicly.
