1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou can keep a prerecorded playlist live on YouTube either by running an encoder such as OBS on a computer or by using a cloud service that sends the videos for you. OBS gives you direct control but requires a working computer and internet connection for the entire broadcast; a cloud service can keep broadcasting while your computer is off. Both routes still depend on YouTube, a valid stream key, working source files and the rights to stream your content.
What you need before starting
- An eligible channel: YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the past 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so activate it ahead of your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.
- A playlist you have the right to broadcast: You are responsible for the necessary rights to video and audio, including music. A license does not necessarily stop Content ID from interrupting a live stream; the rights owner may also need to allowlist your channel.
- A YouTube stream URL and key: You’ll find these in Live Control Room when setting up the stream. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your broadcast.
- A replay plan: Do not count on YouTube saving a full 24/7 broadcast. Streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but YouTube says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder replacing the stream, an interruption or termination. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its livestream terms and conditions before broadcasting.
Choose OBS or a cloud playlist service
| Option | What stays running | What you manage | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| OBS on a computer | Your computer, OBS and internet connection must stay available throughout the live stream. | The encoder, playlist playback, local files, connection, monitoring and recovery if something fails. | You want hands-on control and can keep a suitable computer and connection online. |
| Cloud playlist service | The provider’s cloud system sends the stream; your personal computer does not need to stay online. | Provider setup and source files, plus the YouTube stream key, channel, rights and any YouTube-side interruptions. | You want the playlist to continue without leaving a personal computer running. |
YouTube’s encoder documentation covers the local encoder setup and lists Gyre as a cloud tool for continuous prerecorded streams. Looping Stream also describes a cloud playlist workflow at its service site. Those descriptions are not a like-for-like reliability or quality test, and availability, pricing and terms can change; check each provider directly. Whichever route you choose, moving the encoder to the cloud does not remove YouTube’s copyright checks, stream-key requirements or source-media risks.
Set up a 24/7 playlist with OBS
OBS is the do-it-yourself route: the computer running OBS is the encoder that sends the feed to YouTube. The steps below describe the end-to-end workflow; menu labels can vary by OBS version, so use YouTube’s encoder setup guidance alongside the current OBS interface.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Enable live streaming in advance. Complete channel verification and confirm the channel has no live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement to take effect.
- Prepare the media and playlist. Check that every video and audio track is cleared for live use, that files play correctly, and that the playlist order meets your needs. Keep a local backup if losing a source file would disrupt the broadcast.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and key shown for the stream. In OBS, open the streaming settings, select YouTube as the service if available, and enter or connect the stream key as prompted. Keep the key private.
- Configure OBS to play the playlist. Add the video files as sources and arrange them in the order you want. Configure the sources to transition or loop as needed, then confirm that playback reaches the next item rather than stopping at the end of one file. A prerecorded playlist is different from YouTube’s HLS transport playlist; the latter is a technical media-segment format, not the list of videos you are scheduling.
- Set output to match your source and connection. Choose a resolution and frame rate the computer can encode reliably, and set a video bitrate that fits the upload connection. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate; do not set a bitrate that consumes the full available upload capacity. See YouTube’s streaming tips. The cited guidance here does not specify one universal OBS bitrate, resolution or keyframe interval for every source and connection, so verify current YouTube recommendations for your chosen output rather than copying a setting that may not fit.
- Preview before going live. Start the OBS feed and check the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm picture, sound, playlist progression and stream health before making the broadcast public. YouTube recommends monitoring quality while streaming.
- Keep the operation attended. For a 24/7 OBS stream, the computer, OBS process and network must keep working. Watch for overheating, power loss, a dropped connection, a stalled playlist or an OBS crash, and have a recovery plan before launching.
Or let it run in the cloud

Check the archive and rights separately from the encoder
Plan for replays
YouTube’s automatic archive guidance is not a promise to save a 24/7 session: streams under 12 hours can be archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on very long streams. If viewers need a replay, keep a separate recording or design shorter broadcasts around your archive requirements rather than assuming the continuous stream will be preserved.
Clear the content for live use
The encoder does not change your copyright obligations. You need the necessary rights for every video and audio element. If you have a license for third-party material, ask the rights owner whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID to avoid a live match interruption. No playlist should be treated as safe merely because it has played without a claim before.

Troubleshooting a 24/7 playlist
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is not available | The channel has not completed eligibility or first-time enablement. | Verify the channel, check for a live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days, confirm the streamer meets YouTube’s age requirement, and allow up to 24 hours after enabling the feature. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Wrong stream URL or key, an expired/incorrect setup, or an encoder/network issue. | Compare the OBS settings with the current stream details in Live Control Room. Regenerate or re-enter the key if necessary, and keep it private. |
| Video buffers or stream health degrades | The outgoing bitrate is too close to the connection’s real upload capacity, or the connection is unstable. | Check actual upload capacity and reduce output bitrate if needed. Leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom and monitor the Live Control Room preview. |
| Playlist stops or repeats the wrong item | Playback or source progression is not configured as intended, or a local file is unavailable. | Test the entire playlist, including transitions and the end of the final item. For OBS, confirm source and looping behavior; for a cloud service, check the uploaded files and playlist arrangement. |
| Stream switches to a placeholder or ends unexpectedly | YouTube detected a third-party content match or another YouTube-side interruption. | Review the live-stream copyright notice, confirm rights and any required Content ID allowlisting with the rights owner. Changing from OBS to a cloud encoder does not bypass matching. |
| A long broadcast has no complete replay | The stream exceeded YouTube’s archive capture limits or DVR availability was limited. | Use a separate recording or shorter broadcasts if preserving the replay is important. |
What a continuous live stream does not guarantee
- It does not guarantee an archive: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube.
- It does not grant content rights: prerecorded material remains subject to copyright and Content ID checks.
- It does not remove every failure point: YouTube ingest, the stream key, source files and—if using OBS—the local computer and connection all matter.
- It does not prove monetization eligibility: a continuous playlist is not a substitute for meeting YouTube’s applicable channel and content policies.
