For a single prerecorded or continuous feed that needs to stay live on YouTube, start with a service built for that job rather than a broadcast-delivery stack. StreamNeo is the most direct managed option here: upload a video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and let it loop from the cloud. If you want to manage the server yourself, DigitalOcean infrastructure with an SRS stack is a candidate to evaluate. AWS MediaLive, MediaPackage, and CloudFront are designed for a broader encoding, packaging, and viewer-delivery workflow; they are not automatically the simplest or cheapest way to keep one YouTube stream key fed.
Best options at a glance
| Rank | Option | Best suited to | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | StreamNeo | A YouTube channel that needs uploaded videos or a playlist to loop continuously without a computer running at home. | Cloud-based, one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with a free first day and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. |
| 2 | DigitalOcean infrastructure with SRS | Operators comfortable setting up and maintaining a self-managed cloud video stack. | DigitalOcean describes infrastructure for streaming builders, and its SRS Marketplace listing describes an open-source stack. Neither source establishes a tested Droplet size or guaranteed 24/7 YouTube performance. |
| 3 | AWS MediaLive, MediaPackage, and CloudFront | Broadcasters who need managed encoding, packaging, and distribution to viewers. | This is a larger broadcast architecture than a simple YouTube uplink. AWS’s cited cost example is for a one-hour event with about 1,000 viewers, not an always-on YouTube-only feed. |
| 4 | Amazon Lightsail | People considering a general-purpose AWS server for a self-managed setup. | Lightsail is not established as a turnkey live-streaming service. Verify current regional pricing, transfer allowance, CPU capacity, and suitability before choosing a plan. |
No vendor comparison in the available sources tests all candidates using the same stream, bitrate, region, duration, and uptime target. Treat self-managed server choices as designs to size and validate, not as proven reliability rankings.
Choose the right kind of cloud service
One feed going into YouTube
If your goal is to keep one YouTube live event running from an uploaded recording or playlist, the core requirement is a dependable source and a service that keeps sending a compliant feed to YouTube. A cloud server can do this, but you are responsible for the streaming process, monitoring, and recovery. A managed looping service reduces that server work.
Encoding and serving your own viewers
A broadcast workflow may also encode the source into multiple formats, package it, and deliver it to viewers. AWS documents a workflow using Elemental MediaLive for encoding, MediaPackage for packaging and origin, and CloudFront for distribution. Its CloudFront guidance describes a 24×7 live channel, but that does not make the full architecture necessary for a single feed sent to YouTube.

As AWS puts it, “For live video streaming, your video content is streamed real time as live events happen, or is set up as a 24×7 live channel.” That description is about live video delivery with CloudFront; it is not a claim that CloudFront alone replaces a YouTube encoder.
What each service offers
1. StreamNeo: managed YouTube looping
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or create a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. The cloud continues looping the uploaded material, so your computer, OBS setup, and home internet connection do not have to stay on. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera feed.
- One always-on stream per slot, with 24/7 looping and playlists.
- Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at the same per-slot price; StreamNeo says it does not re-encode the upload.
- 10 GB storage per slot, pooled across active slots.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, plus support from the StreamNeo team.
- One free day per account, with no card required. Billing options are a day, a week, a month, six months, or a year; cancel any time.
- UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Contact support about five or more slots.
All plans include the same features; only the billing length changes. For planning, StreamNeo provides an upload-time calculator, a cloud vs. PC cost calculator, and a copyright safety checklist.

2. DigitalOcean with SRS: self-managed infrastructure
DigitalOcean promotes CPU-optimized Droplets and other infrastructure for video service builders. Its Marketplace SRS listing describes an open-source cloud or self-hosted video solution that can send RTSP camera input to YouTube and other platforms. This makes it a starting point for a self-managed design, not a pre-verified 24/7 YouTube service. The cited material does not specify a Droplet size that can reliably encode a particular resolution and frame rate.
Before deployment, work out whether SRS will relay an already encoded feed or whether your setup must encode it. Encoding needs CPU or other suitable compute capacity, while a relay still needs enough network capacity and stable input. Confirm the current product configuration and documentation on the DigitalOcean streaming solution page and SRS Marketplace listing.

3. AWS managed media services: broadcast processing and delivery
AWS’s documented live workflow combines MediaLive, MediaPackage, and CloudFront. It is relevant when you need managed encoding, packaging, and viewer distribution. Those components can be excessive if your only task is to send one continuous feed to YouTube, and the AWS example below should not be treated as the cost of that simpler job.
AWS’s deployment guide estimates $69.74 for a one-hour event with approximately 1,000 viewers using a standard-definition 540p encoding profile: $2.50 for live encoding and packaging plus $67.24 for 791 GB of distribution. This is an AWS example based on its stated workload assumptions in the current documentation revision accessed in 2026, not a quote for a 24/7 YouTube-only uplink. Distribution accounts for most of that example. Actual charges depend on viewers, bitrate, region, duration, and service configuration; do not multiply the event figure into a monthly estimate without recalculating those inputs.
4. Amazon Lightsail: a general server to evaluate
Lightsail offers general-purpose server plans. Its pricing information describes a monthly transfer allowance and says prices vary by AWS region, but it does not establish a turnkey live-streaming product or provide enough information here for a fair current plan-by-plan comparison. Check the current regional plan, transfer allowance, CPU, and any overage terms on the Amazon Lightsail pricing page before using it for sustained streaming.

Set YouTube-compatible encoder settings
For a self-managed encoder or relay that sends a feed to YouTube, select settings in the encoder that match the stream you intend to deliver. YouTube’s current live page is the authority for supported resolutions, frame rates, bitrates, codecs, and protocols; check it before deployment because support can change. YouTube recommends testing with representative movement and audio, monitoring stream health, using CBR, and setting a two-second keyframe interval. It also recommends RTMPS for secure ingest. See YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.
- Resolution and frame rate: Set them in the encoder to match the source and YouTube’s currently supported settings. Higher resolution or frame rate requires more sustained upload bandwidth and may require more encoding capacity.
- Bitrate: Use YouTube’s published range for the selected resolution and frame rate. Test actual upload capacity with the intended stream running; YouTube says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.” Leave enough headroom for network variation rather than sizing exactly to the measured peak.
- Rate control and keyframes: Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, as YouTube recommends in its encoder guidance.
- Ingest protocol: Use RTMPS where your encoder or streaming stack supports it, following YouTube’s secure-ingest guidance.
- Audio and motion: Test the same kind of movement and audio as the intended stream. A static test image may not reveal bitrate or encoding problems that appear with fast motion or complex scenes.
- Stream key: Copy the stream key from YouTube Studio’s live control room into the service or encoder that sends the feed. Keep it private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to that event. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the sender.
Plan a self-managed 24/7 setup
A VPS or cloud marketplace image can keep a process running away from your home computer, but it does not by itself guarantee that the stream will remain live. In a self-managed design, you own both the feed and the recovery path. Size and test the complete chain before committing to a long-running channel.
- Define the job: Decide whether the server must encode video, relay an already encoded source, or both. Record the target resolution, frame rate, audio format, bitrate, source type, and whether the feed is a camera or prerecorded material.
- Estimate sustained network use: Use the selected output bitrate and planned operating hours to estimate transfer. Check the cloud provider’s regional transfer allowance and overage policy, and account for protocol overhead and any other traffic.
- Size compute from the actual encoding workload: Do not infer encoding capacity from a vendor’s general streaming page or a marketplace listing. Test the chosen machine with the codec, resolution, frame rate, and duration you expect to run; neither the cited DigitalOcean nor AWS material benchmarks a specific self-managed server for this job.
- Secure and configure the sender: Install the chosen encoder or relay using its current documentation, configure YouTube’s approved ingest settings, and store the stream key securely rather than placing it in public logs or shared configuration.
- Supervise the process: Configure process supervision or an equivalent restart mechanism, then deliberately test what happens after the sender exits, the source disconnects, and the network briefly fails. A restart is useful only if the source and YouTube connection recover too.
- Monitor from outside the server: Check YouTube’s stream health and the host’s process, CPU, network, and disk indicators. An external alert can tell you the sender or event stopped when the cloud host itself is unreachable.
- Plan maintenance and redundancy: Decide who will patch and monitor the host, what happens during a region or source failure, and whether a second source or host is worth the extra complexity and cost. A single server and a single input are single points of failure.
- Test the full run: Send a representative stream privately or with the appropriate visibility before relying on it. Verify picture, audio, keyframe cadence, health status, reconnect behavior, and alerts over a sustained test.
Budget for the whole workload
For a self-managed cloud server, the server plan is only one part of cost. Include compute, sustained outbound transfer, storage for source files, any extra services, and the time required to operate and recover the stream. Price and transfer allowances vary by vendor, region, configuration, and duration; verify them on the provider’s current pages.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
For a managed broadcast stack, identify whether the estimate includes encoding, packaging, origin, and distribution, then model the actual audience and viewing time. AWS’s cited 540p example is dominated by distribution for approximately 1,000 viewers; it is not a relevant proxy for a private or YouTube-only ingest with a different delivery path. Compare like with like: a cloud process that sends one feed to YouTube is not equivalent to a service that also distributes video to viewers.
Reliability: questions to answer before you choose
Cloud location removes dependence on a home computer and home connection, but a cloud server does not guarantee end-to-end uptime. The vendor material cited here does not establish an end-to-end uptime promise for a user-managed OBS or SRS process feeding YouTube. Check any contractual SLA separately and decide how much operational responsibility you can accept.
- Does the service restart its sender after a process crash, and does it reconnect to YouTube after an ingest interruption?
- Can it detect a stalled or missing source rather than merely report that the process is running?
- Will you receive an alert if YouTube reports poor stream health or the event ends?
- Who handles operating-system updates, encoder upgrades, storage cleanup, and key rotation?
- Is there a backup source or host, and has failover actually been tested?
- What is the recovery plan if the stream key is revoked, the YouTube event closes, or the account requires action?
Copyright and YouTube channel rules
A technically stable stream can still be interrupted or restricted for rights or policy reasons. Stream only material you own or are authorized to use, including music, visuals, and any third-party clips; permission for a recording does not necessarily cover continuous retransmission. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming and copyright rules, and monitor Studio notifications for claims or restrictions.
Do not assume that looping a video makes it eligible for monetization. YouTube channel monetization policies assess reused and repetitive content in context, and compliance can depend on whether the channel adds meaningful original value. Check the rules that apply to your channel and territory before building a 24/7 schedule around repeated uploads. StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist can help organize a rights review, but it does not grant rights or guarantee YouTube approval.

Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a signal | Incorrect or outdated stream key, wrong ingest URL, sender not running, or network egress blocked. | Confirm the active event and ingest details in YouTube Studio, replace the key in the sender if needed, and check the sender logs and host network access. |
| Stream health reports unstable or insufficient bitrate | Upload capacity is below the configured output or varies over time. | Run YouTube’s recommended speed test, inspect sustained—not just peak—throughput, and lower the bitrate or improve the network path while staying within YouTube’s current settings. |
| Video appears choppy or keyframe-related warnings appear | Encoder overload, mismatched frame settings, or keyframes not spaced as expected. | Check CPU or hardware-encoder load, confirm resolution and frame rate, and set a two-second keyframe interval in line with YouTube’s guidance. |
| Picture works but audio is missing or distorted | Wrong audio source, unsupported or mismatched audio configuration, or a source file with a problem. | Test the actual source with audio before going live and confirm the encoder is capturing the intended audio track. |
| Stream stops after a host or process interruption | No process supervision, source reconnection, or effective retry path. | Review process and network logs, configure and test restart/reconnect behavior, and make sure the source is available when the sender returns. |
| Server is running but the video is frozen | The encoder process is alive while the input has stalled, or the source itself has stopped advancing. | Monitor source freshness and YouTube stream health, not only whether the process exists; add an alert and a tested source-recovery action. |
| Costs are higher than expected | Transfer, audience distribution, region, or service configuration differs from the estimate. | Separate encoder/packaging cost from viewer delivery, inspect actual usage and regional rates, and estimate again with real duration, bitrate, and audience assumptions. |
