For a hands-on local setup, OBS Studio with its VLC Video source is the clearest starting point: it can play a playlist, repeat it, and optionally shuffle it. If you want the stream to continue without a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative for uploaded videos. The right choice depends on whether you want to manage playback on your own PC, hand it to a cloud service, or use dedicated hardware.
What “schedule rotating videos” means for YouTube Live
This means sending a sequence of prerecorded video files through an encoder as one YouTube Live broadcast—for example, playing the last clip and then returning to the first. It is not the same as looping a playlist while watching YouTube: the rotation must happen in the source that sends the live feed.
For any option below, use only video and audio you have the rights to broadcast. A video being publicly available does not by itself give you permission to rebroadcast it.
Best options by workflow
| Option | Where playback runs | Playlist rotation | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud | Uploaded videos can be arranged as a playlist and looped | Keeping a YouTube channel live without leaving a computer running |
| OBS Studio + VLC Video source | Your computer | Plays a playlist; loop and shuffle controls are available | A local, configurable setup you can operate and monitor |
| OBS Studio Media Source | Your computer | Loops one selected file; not a multi-video playlist workflow | Repeating a single clip |
| Gyre or Upstream.so | Cloud service | YouTube lists these among options for continuous or 24/7 streams; confirm current features and terms with the provider | Investigating hosted automation beyond a local PC |
| AJA HELO Plus | Dedicated hardware | YouTube describes its PlayToStream functionality as scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer | Considering a standalone device rather than a PC or hosted service |
YouTube’s official encoder list names OBS, Gyre, Upstream.so, and AJA HELO Plus, but that listing is not a comparative review. It does not establish which hosted service costs less or is more reliable. Check each provider’s current plans and terms before committing.

1. Stream prerecorded videos from the cloud with StreamNeo
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. You create a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream; playback continues in the cloud rather than depending on your home computer staying on. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
- Upload the recordings you have permission to use and build a playlist in StreamNeo.
- Add your YouTube stream key.
- Start the stream and let StreamNeo loop the playlist from the cloud.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage pooled across your active slots, playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding; the service uses one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers. The first day is free, with no card required, once per account. You can choose daily, weekly, monthly, six-month, or yearly billing and cancel any time. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.
Plans provide the same product; only the billing length changes. Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year.

2. Set up a rotating playlist in OBS Studio
OBS Studio’s VLC Video source is the direct local option for several files. VLC must be installed, and OBS’s documentation specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. The instructions below use the source controls documented by OBS; exact screen layout can vary by version.
- Install VLC with the same architecture as OBS (for example, 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS), then open OBS.
- In the Sources box, select + and choose VLC Video Source. Give the source a recognizable name.
- In the source properties, add the video files to the playlist. Put them in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist to restart the sequence when it reaches the end. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed order; enable it if you want random rotation.
- Check the preview and audio levels, then arrange the source in your scene. OBS documents that a source stops when it is not visible and restarts when visible by default; keep it visible during the broadcast or deliberately adjust its visibility behavior.
- Connect OBS to YouTube using the stream key and encoder settings, then start the broadcast. Run a private or unlisted rehearsal first so you can catch playlist, audio, and stream configuration problems before relying on a long schedule.
OBS documents Loop Playlist as the control that specifies whether the source restarts after it runs out of media files. Its documented defaults are loop on and shuffle off, but check the properties rather than relying on defaults: settings can be changed.
Use OBS Media Source for one repeating clip
If you only need one file to repeat, use OBS’s built-in Media Source instead of creating a VLC playlist.
- In Sources, select + and choose Media Source.
- Create a source or select an existing one, then choose the local video file in its properties.
- Turn on Loop, which OBS documents as off by default, and confirm the clip plays as expected in the preview.
- Connect OBS to YouTube and rehearse the stream before scheduling unattended playback.
Media Source is for the single-file repeat case; use VLC Video source when you need to rotate among multiple files.

Other hosted and standalone options
Hosted services: Gyre and Upstream.so
YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre and Upstream.so as cloud options for continuous or 24/7 streaming. The listing does not establish their current playlist controls, pricing, availability, or service reliability. Check those details directly with each provider before choosing one.
Standalone playback: AJA HELO Plus
YouTube lists AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream functionality as scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. It is a dedicated hardware route, so weigh the need for a separate device against managing a local computer or using a cloud service. Confirm current device capabilities and terms with the manufacturer.
Choose based on where you want the work to happen
- Choose OBS + VLC if you want to control playlist order and looping locally and can keep the streaming computer and connection operating.
- Choose OBS Media Source if the job is simply to loop one file from your computer.
- Investigate a hosted option if you do not want a dedicated PC running at home; compare current service features and terms directly.
- Consider dedicated hardware if standalone operation is important enough to justify a separate device.
YouTube requirements and a safe rehearsal
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave channel activation until just before a planned broadcast. YouTube explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format for streaming.
- Verify the channel and confirm live streaming is enabled before configuring an unattended rotation.
- Use content you have the rights to broadcast, including any music, images, and embedded material.
- Run a private or unlisted test with the actual playlist, audio, and encoder setup. Confirm that the first file plays, the next file follows in the intended order, and the sequence returns to the beginning if looping is enabled.
- Check YouTube’s live preview and audio before making the broadcast public. Do not rely on a schedule until the end-of-playlist behavior and recovery plan are clear.
Troubleshooting common rotation problems
The VLC Video source is missing or unavailable
Install VLC and make sure its architecture matches OBS. OBS specifically requires 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS. Restart OBS after installing VLC and check the source menu again.

The playlist ends instead of starting over
Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist. Confirm that the expected files are actually in the playlist and test the end of the sequence in OBS.
The files play in a different order or shuffle unexpectedly
Turn off Shuffle Playlist if you want a fixed sequence, then verify the playlist order in the source properties. Do not assume the saved order is the one you intended without checking it.
A source stops when you switch scenes or hide it
OBS’s documented default is to stop a media source when it is not visible and restart it when it becomes visible. Keep the source visible in the active scene during the broadcast, or review its visibility behavior in the source properties.
Live streaming is unavailable on the channel
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so enable it early and confirm status before the planned stream.

The stream is live but the wrong content appears
Check which OBS scene is active, whether the intended media source is visible, and whether its playlist contains the right files. Test with a private or unlisted broadcast before relying on the rotation publicly.
Costs and planning
OBS and VLC are local software components, but a local 24/7 broadcast still depends on the computer and internet connection remaining operational. Hosted services and dedicated hardware have provider-specific pricing and terms; YouTube’s encoder listing does not compare them. For StreamNeo, storage is 10 GB per slot pooled across active slots; estimate upload time with the upload-time calculator and compare cloud operation with running your own computer using the cloud vs PC cost calculator.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload your recordings, add the YouTube stream key, and go live with StreamNeo. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video can stream at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
