Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If OBS is skipping items in a YouTube Live playlist, first check how the videos are added: OBS uses VLC Video for a playlist, while Media Source is for an individual file. Verify VLC is installed and matches OBS’s architecture, check playlist order and shuffle/loop settings, then test playback locally before investigating YouTube delivery. The available official guidance describes software and streaming behavior, not an India-specific cause.
Identify which OBS source is playing the videos
Open the relevant scene in OBS and inspect the source list and its properties. The source type determines which controls to check.
- VLC Video: OBS’s playlist source, which can play a list of media files.
- Media Source: a source for an individual local media file, with its own playback and activation options. If you have several Media Sources, they are not one VLC playlist; check how each source is shown or activated in the scene.
OBS’s Media Sources documentation explains the distinction. It also says VLC must be installed for VLC Video to be available, and that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video is missing or does not behave as expected, confirm the installation and architecture before changing other settings.
Check VLC Video playlist settings
Verify the files and their order
In the VLC Video source properties, inspect the playlist entries and their order. Confirm that each expected file is present and that its path points to the intended local media. If a particular item is skipped, note its filename and position in the list; this makes it easier to reproduce the issue in a local test.

Choose sequential or shuffled playback
Turn Shuffle Playlist off when items should play in list order. Shuffle randomizes the media list; it does not mean that a video has failed to load.
Choose what happens at the end
Loop Playlist controls whether the list starts again when it runs out. Enable it if playback should continue from the beginning after the last item; disable it if the list should stop at the end. Shuffle and loop are separate choices: one changes ordering, the other changes end-of-list behavior.

Check individual Media Sources for interruptions
If the scene uses separate Media Sources rather than VLC Video, inspect each source’s visibility and activation behavior. OBS documents options that can restart a Media Source when it becomes active and close its file while it is inactive. A closed file may take a short time to reload after a scene change. That can cause a temporary blank or apparent interruption, but it does not by itself establish why a video is being skipped.
Test OBS locally before changing YouTube settings
- Play the playlist in the OBS preview. Watch for the same missing or prematurely advanced item.
- If possible, make a local recording while the playlist runs, then review it. Record the filename and point in playback where the problem occurs, and note whether the source or scene became hidden or changed.
- Compare that local result with what viewers receive on YouTube. If the item is already missing in the preview or recording, focus on the OBS source, playlist entry, local file playback, or scene/source visibility. If local playback is correct but the YouTube stream appears to skip, check YouTube Live stream health and identify the ingest protocol.
This local-versus-platform comparison is a diagnostic method, not proof of a specific fault. OBS source playback and YouTube ingest are separate layers; without the OBS log, source properties, media details, local test, and YouTube stream-health information, the exact cause cannot be determined.

Check the ingest protocol only if local playback is correct
Do not confuse OBS’s VLC Video playlist with YouTube’s HLS media playlist. The VLC playlist is the list of local videos OBS plays. HLS rules concern how an encoder sends segmented video to YouTube.
YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because video is sent in segments rather than continuously. If your encoder is using HLS, compare its output with YouTube’s HLS setup requirements: segments must be 1–4 seconds, in TS format, and sent using HTTPS POST/PUT; the rolling playlist must have no more than five outstanding segments. Google’s HLS delivery guide also describes media-playlist ordering, segment naming, and accepted uploads. These are protocol requirements, not controls for the local OBS VLC Video playlist. If you are not using HLS, do not apply HLS-specific settings as a playlist fix.

What to collect if the skips continue
- OBS version and operating system.
- VLC version and whether its architecture matches OBS.
- Source type and relevant source properties.
- The playlist entries and order, including the exact file that skips.
- Whether the same behavior occurs in preview or a local recording.
- Whether the source or scene changes visibility during playback.
- YouTube Live stream health and whether the ingest protocol is RTMP or HLS.
These details help distinguish a playlist or source issue from a delivery issue. The official guidance cited here does not establish a country-specific failure mode or an India-only fix.
