A 24/7 broadcast also needs dependable upload bandwidth, testing, and someone or something able to detect interruptions; YouTube’s guidance does not promise uninterrupted service.
Before you start: check live access and content rights
Enable live streaming early
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the day you plan to launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Get permission for the content you plan to rebroadcast
Do not assume that an NCERT PDF, lesson video, image, or recording is free to rebroadcast merely because it is publicly accessible. NCERT’s digital citizenship textbook says copyrighted material should not be used without permission from its creator or owner. NCERT has also said that publishing textbook content for commercial sale without permission may lead to action under the Copyright Act 1957. Check the permission terms for your intended channel, territory, broadcast format, and any commercial use before scheduling a stream.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace the feed with a placeholder, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. Even where you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance and confirm any required allowlisting with the rights holder.

Choose an encoder and plan for continuous operation
YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. An encoder sends your video and audio feed to YouTube; either type can work if it supports the stream settings you need and can operate reliably for long periods. Consider compatibility, recovery or failover options, and how you will monitor it if it is unattended. YouTube does not prescribe one universal architecture or uptime guarantee for a 24/7 channel.
The encoder, power, and internet connection must remain available for the stream to continue. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. Plan how you will notice an interruption and restart or recover the broadcast, and test any backup encoder and failover arrangement before relying on it.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create a stream or select an existing one. Use YouTube’s encoder setup instructions if you need help locating the stream details.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Enter both in your encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP destination fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Prepare the lesson feed. Load the authorized video or playlist into the encoder workflow. Check that the intended lesson order, audio, and any transitions are correct before sending the feed.
- Choose the stream behavior in Live Control Room. Review the available latency, DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop controls. DVR lets viewers pause and resume a live stream. Decide whether that suits lessons and whether you want the encoder to control starting and stopping, then test the chosen behavior.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Confirm that Live Control Room receives the signal before making the stream public or announcing it. Check the watch page from a viewer’s perspective.
Size the internet connection and test the full path
Measure outbound upload capacity, not just download speed. YouTube recommends that the streaming bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth and advises allowing 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. That is a recommendation, not a guarantee against congestion or outages. Use a reliable connection and check that other activity on the network will not consume the capacity the stream needs. - Run a test at the bitrate and settings you intend to use, then confirm the preview and stream health in Live Control Room.
- Listen for clean audio and watch moving video for freezes, dropouts, or sync problems.
- Check that the public watch page opens and that the stream behaves as intended with DVR and start/stop controls.
- If you use a backup encoder, test switching to it before depending on failover.
A wired Ethernet connection can be a practical way to connect a compatible encoder computer to a router, but YouTube does not require Ethernet or specify a cable type. Check the computer and router ports, and choose a cable long enough for the setup.

Operate the channel around the clock
Once the stream is live, monitor stream quality and have a response plan for encoder, power, or connectivity failures. YouTube recommends monitoring and advance testing; the particular monitoring schedule, staffing, and recovery setup depend on your installation. A 24/7 label does not mean a stream will stay live without a working encoder and connection or someone able to respond when they fail.
